There is a small switch behind one of the switch blank off plates to the right of the steering column. It is a very small switch about 6" deep into the dash, hard to find easy to reset.

Mitsubishi Mighty Max has 170,000 miles on it and maintenance light came on and will not go off

Yes, unplug the battery for 30 seconds, and the ECU will reset. If the light comes on again, get the error code read to see what the ECU thinks is the problem. At 170,000 miles, this is likely burning oil causing a misfire, might be the engine temp sensor wires are broken (causes hard starts when cold), might just be low power steering oil or even worn brake pads causing a low brake fluid level.

Torque specs for mighty max

Per my Chilton's manual tehe bolts should be (cold engine) 65 to 72 FT. Pnds., the cam shaft bearing bolts should be 8x25 = 15 - 19 Ft pnds and the 8x65 should be 14 - 15 Ft Pnds.

The sequence is as follows for the (10 ) head bolts:

7 - 5 - 2 - 4 - 10

9 - 3 - 1 - 6 - 8

I hope this may help,

Maintenance light stays on

First I'd say try taking the battery cable off the negative terminal to reset the computer.
Then what I would do is pull the codes from the computer. Autozone will read your codes for free! If the Check Engine Light (MIL) came on after you have already reset the ECU, the computer stored a code. Even if the MIL goes out, the code will remain stored in the computer.
It might be something as simple as an oxygen sensor, but the best way to do things is find out the code, then to try to clear it, if the problem persists then the CEL (check engine light) or maintenance light will simply come back on.

If it is 4X4 and you re not going far. Put the transfer case in neutral. If it is 2X4 standard transmission, put it in neutral. If it is an automatic transmission you need to remove the driveline.
