Have the fault codes read. Replace faulty items. Use only genuine items as replacement as non-genuine are not always compatible with the OEM fitted CPU units I would have the fuel pressure in the manifold tested as well .The engine light is telling you that the CPU has found sensor/s outside set parameters during the checking process

Sounds like you need a new fuel pump. The service engine soon light will probably be a code for runnung LEAN. ( Lack of Fuel ) for low fuel delivery when it's needed.
you need to have the codes pulled from the computer to be able to tell what the problem is,if you continue to drive the vehicle you can cause serious trouble and the problem maybe something simple to repair now before more damage is caused.the sputtering could be bad ignition components or fuel filter plugging or even a bad fuel pump.
