Battery won't hold charge

1998 Olds Aurura Ltd. Ed. Driver's window had broken. After repair, overnight the battery went dead. Bought new battery with same results. Have had it to dealer 4 times and 2 separate indep. mechs. This particular car is very important to me.

Replace your starter. I think that you are expecting your problem to be in the same place as the repair you had done. General motors is famous for this problem. your starter will work fine but when the car sits the starter will drain your batt. even if the starter is taken off and tested they will tell you that's not the problem. I've been almost right where your at.

Take it to your local mechanics for a battery check. Most of the time battery check is FREE. They will also check wires that is connected to the battery.

Sounds like a short is draining the battery.

I'd suspect somewhere in the electric mechanism for the drivers window in the door.... Take it back to the guy who fitted the window and tell him about it.

They probably had to move the mechanisim to fit the window and may have trapped or rubbed a wire

My ignition went out on the steering column on my 1996 buick roadmaster, so my mechanic bypassed it and put in a switch and push button start, but the problem is by battery will not hold a charge,

So what does your mechanic think is wrong ? Battery dies overnight while sitting or when driving the battery goes dead ? Two different problems . Going dead overnight means there is a parasitic drain on the battery . ( something is staying on ) Going dead while driving means the alternator isn't charging the battery .

My 1998 Intrigue went dead. Bought new battery and went dead again almost overnight. May be alternator or short. How do I know?

WHEN THE CAR IS RUNNING PULL THE GROUND OFF THE BATTERY POST CAR SHOULD STAY RUNNING, BATTERY IS ONLY FOR ACCESORIES AND STARTING THE CAR, IF IT DOESNT NEED TO REPLACE THE ALTERNATOR

Whats wrong when the computer as ys check your charging station

Does the radio turn on when you turn ignition. If not then the Battery
has bad cell. Replace battery. Battery's in Olds Aurora 98 typically
get a very long life. 6 years . After 6 I recommend replacing battery
If your car turns what does your battery read. If it's reading only 12 V
with eng. going, your alternator has gone out. If battery is new then you'll need to find another reason your battery is draining charge.
