It`s a 2000 buick regal ls. make sure when it gets hot eh fans are running. There is a coolant sensor just below the top radiator hose ON THE ENGINE. This sensor tells the fans when to go on when the engine gets hot and also serves as a low coolant sensor. unplug the sensor and replace it. use a open end or box wrench. if your quick you can replace it and only loose a few ounces of coolant. Hope this helps and God Bless :O)
the one thing that comes too mind is trapped air-when i do a radiator I always start up and warm engine so thermostat cycles a few times to make sure that you dont trap air in colling system. you did not say so but if you didnt, its really not a bad idea to change thermostat and gasket when digging into colling system. they are usaully fairly cheap.
Check the temp of the heater hoses going into the heater from the engine in the engine compartment. If you have a temp gauge on the dash does it go at least 1/3 the way up the gauge from cold in normal driving. You can take a garden hose and flush the heater....both ways back and forth then reconnect heater hoses and check for heat. But.....The # 1 cause of no or low heat is the engine thermostat. It needs to close tightly to force the engine coolant through the small heater core.
Is coolant flowing through the radiator? Possible water pump, radiator blockage, or air flow to/through the radiator blocked or restricted. When the fans come on is there warm air coming from them?
The coolant sensor should be located near where
the upper radiator hose is attached to the engine and has a wire connector on it with 2 wires. It's the
only sensor near there. Then there's the sensor that'll be attached to your reservoir tank somewhere along the firewall
It could be that the low coolant sensor is just dirty. You should be able to follow a wire to the top part of your radiator, to the sensor, or it might be in the overflow tank, take it out and clean it, and see if that will do it, if not, replace it.
The low coolant sensor should be located in the passenger side radiator tank, You need to take it out and clean the sludge off of it for it to work right. Or you can just unplug it and forget about it, the light will go out and it won't cause any problems.
