Clutch adjusted wrong so not fully engaged, or clutch plate worn out.
Pedal should have 1" or so movement before pressure felt building up.
If not, adjust so there is some free play.
If free play is present the clutch itself is likely in trouble or the mechanism is damaged.

ok how do you adjust it?

  • kapricorn62 May 30, 2010

now that i think about it i should add that the truck will start which means that the clutch would seem to be stuck in the engaged mode because it wont start unless the clutch is pressed in, but when you release it it's not disengaging to put it into gear....any further thoughts?

Not familiar with the particular truck, but usually a micro switch decides that & that should be attached to the pedal or the mechanism to allow starting when clutch depressed so it doesn't affect previous comments.
Adjusting; as hydraulic it's automatic so in that case a worn out clutch or stuffed slave cylinder (which they're prone to) is more likely.

1993 Honda Accord If a knew clutch kit is installed could da transmission be stuck in gear

only if pressure is on drive line and clutch is not releasing or the transmission is stuck take the shifter out of the top of the trans and realign the gear forks with a bar or something remember scotch the wheels so the car will not roll off and depress the clutch at same time then reinstall shifter if you cant move forks fairly easily something is wrong if you have a fluid clutch release make sure it has fluid in it and no air is trapped in system

My 1992 Toyota Camry won't shift into gear after I changed out the clutch, how do you synchronize the gear shift with the transmission?

First, are you certain that you installed the clutch and throw-out bearing correctly? This may take some trial and error - if you replaced the clutch, you know your way around the transmission. The shifter should have two rods/levers going to two attaching points on the transmission. Disconnect these linkage rods from the transmission. Manually move the connecting points and test by "bumping" the starter until you're sure the transmission is in Neutral. Verify that the stick shift in in the Neutral position, and re-connect the linkage rods. If all goes well, you should now be able to move the shifter through the gears. Good luck

My problem is that the manual transmission is stuck in 4th gear. I was backing up when I went to put it into 1st the shifter was stuck. The clutch works to disengage the gears but the shifter won't...

That cylinder is known as the clutch slave cylinder. It should push against the clutch fork every time the clutch pedal is depressed to allow gear changes. If it doesn't, suspect a faulty slave cylinder, or clutch master cylinder.

20004 Saturn i am having shifting problems will not go into gear smoothly,if at all . 5th gear in nearly impossible to find with out grinding . Is it the shifter ,clutch or clutch pedal not engaging?

Possible causes are: The clutch is going out, the hydraulic clutch system is low on fluid, or the transmission input shaft is binding on the pilot bearing. 1. Is the pedal firm and does it feel like it used to? (low fluid). 2. Once in gear and moving push on clutch and notice when the transmission disengages. If it does not disengage until the pedal is almost at the top then the clutch is getting thin and will need replacing. 3. With vehicle on a smooth flat surface, depress clutch and try to shift into any and all gears. Notice if vehicle tries to lurch forward as shifter goes into gear. This may be a subtle lurch but should be noticeable. This checks for a binding pilot bushing. Let me know what you find. Thanks and please rate.

Transmission question

hi i will try help, well yes it will have adverse results on his gear box if he is putting it in drive and then reverse before the vehicle stops going forward, ile explain, when you engage the gear and drive forward, the centrifugal force is sent to the torque converter This engages reverse gear within the transmission, giving the ability for the vehicle to drive backwards. In order for the driver to select reverse, they must come to a complete stop push the shift lock button in (or pull the shift lever forward in the case of a column shifter) and select reverse. Not coming to a complete stop can cause severe damage to the transmission. Many modern automatic transmissions have a safety mechanism in place, which does to some extent prevent (but does not completely avoid) inadvertently putting the car in reverse when the vehicle is moving forwards. This mechanism usually consists of a solenoid-controlled physical barrier on either side of the Reverse position, which is electronically engaged by a switch on the . Therefore, the brake pedal needs to be depressed in order to allow the selection of reverse. Some electronic transmissions prevent or delay engagement of reverse gear altogether while the car is moving. Some shifters with a shift button allow the driver to freely move the shifter from R to N or D, or simply moving the shifter to N or D without actually depressing the button. However, the driver cannot put back the shifter to R without depressing the shift button to prevent accidental shifting, especially at high speeds, which could damage the transmission.so hope that answers your question and end the feud lol, please vote thanks
