Hi, the temperature gauge is controlled by the "coolant temperature sender" this is basically the sensor that tells the gauge what to display. you can get this sensor for $16.49 at advance auto parts and the part number is wt 381. if you have trouble locating the sensor you can purchase a repair manual for your expedition and it will guide you through the process. good luck

Water temperture gauge won"t work

The guage itself is probably bad. Maybe try replacing the guage or instument cluster with a junkyard one.

The temperture gauge does not work. It is always

Defective coolant temperature sensor if it reads hot as soon as you start the engine. Check the wiring before replacing. The gauge itself can also be bad but not likely. The temperature sensor will look like this. 52bbcec.png

Temperture gauge tacks out when turn ignition switch

The temperature sending unit is probably bad. This will cause the circuit to ground out and send the needle all the way to hot. You can unplug the sending unit(it will be on the block near the radiator hose) and see if it still does it. If it does it's the sending unit.
