If you have the existing switch key, then turn it to acc-just far enough where the radio only works, push a paper clip into the hole directly under the switch through the plastic column cover, and wiggle the switch and pull on it,it will come out...if no key then pull off the plastic cover, try to center punch perfectly on the pin and drill the pin out,but drill very slow to keep the drill centered on the pin,and to keep the drill from breaking.be careful not to destroy the column around the pin, othrwise the switch wont stay in place..or you can hire a locksmith to pull out the old lock.

1991 f150 starts but must hold key on to stay running i turned key on and off atleast 100 times to rid my tank of bad gas also i'am running off my battery

It sounds like you need to replace the ignition starter switch, the symptom you have is an exact fit, most models of Ford where recalled years ago for this problem.. The starter switch is at the base of the steering column under the dash and operated by a rod from the ignition key tumbler. Very cheap and easy to replace.

Why will the truck not keep running after start unless hold key

Possible cause is the key switch behind the key assembly is not set correctly. When you release the key after engine starts, the key bounces back to ON position but the key switch moves to a position where it did not connect the ignition supply lines.

I have a 1991 ford f150 4x4 with 302 i cant get it to come out of park if you turn the key over it turns past where it would useally stop i can pull the rod down with pliers to get to start but it wont...

im not exactly sure on older fords but i know that 95 and newer fords had brake switchs that worked with the shifting so that if your brake light fuse/lights were blown it would not allow you to shift into any other gear

Where is the fuel shut off switch on 1991 ford 150?

On a 1991 F-150 the Fuel Shut Off Switch is located on the left and above where the steering column passes through the floorboard.

1. Turn the Key in the ignition to OFF.
2. Push the Red Reset Button on the Fuel Pump Shut Off Switch
Down.
3. Turn the ignition Key ON for a few seconds, Then turn it OFF,
Now try to start it.
