When I start the car it jumps and shakes badly, I have to let it sit for 6 minutes before I can drive it, if I don't then it stalls and won't pick up speed. When I try to put my foot on the gas to make it accelerate it makes a loud poppin sound. Then after a minute it accelerates rapidly.

Possibly an ignition module or crank sensor problem. These are the two most common stalling electronics that will cause a stall when they get warm/hot and will then continue to operate once cooled down
next time this happens get someone to hold the key to start if manual with clutch in and tap on the sterter with a hammer or something. if it starts you can just replace the starter contacts or the starter
there's a main relay or fuel pump relay located under the dash on driver's side. this relay goes bad all the times. it usually goes bad when you leave the car in a hot sun, next time keep your window down to see if it will start.
Interstate problems: Faulty Torque Converter or Transmission Electrical Harness.
The shaking could mean a clogged fuel injector, fuel filter, or a bad spark plug in one or more cylinders. Your local parts house will show you how to troubleshoot it.
Check the sensors on the throttle body. There is a sensor that controls air to fuel ratio. If that sensor is bad then the car will run and then stall out while in drive. I had the same problem when it was cold outside last winter. If you dont want to dish out the money without knowing if it is that part at fault or not then start the van pop the hood and located the throttle body. Place your hand on the sensors and give them a little shake and then make sure they are plugged in all the way. You could also turn the van off and unhook the sensor clean the connectors and plug it back in. That should do the trick and if it doesnt stall anymore then I would replace those sensors if I was you. One more thing. If your giving the sensors a tug while the car is running and you hear it going to stall you could located the gas pedal cable and give it a rev or two by hand so it doesnt stall out and turn off.
By the way. You van isnt over heating at all is it?
