Hi JB,
That depends on whats slipping.
Slipping is a term most often associated with an automatic transmission failing to provide power to the wheels.
Slipping can refer to a clutch failing to engage, same results...
It is also used when tires fail to provide adequate traction. (Slipping, sliding, etc.)
Both can have similar symptoms, high revs without commensurate acceleration.
I know it can be hard to tell which from inside the vehicle while its in motion.
Automatic: If your engine tends to rev high without or before forward motion begins, then your transmission is slipping. Park it on level ground, check the fluid level in the tranny.
Manual: If you have let out the clutch without acceleration occurring, the clutch is slipping. Needs adjustment or replacement.
If you have good tread on the drive wheels, you aren't 'Nailing' the pedal to the floor and don't smell burning rubber, it's probably not the tires slipping.
That's about all I can offer with what was given.
Best regards
Mike
Hi,
If the engine is revving but your not going forward then it sounds like your clutch is slipping if it is a manual, or the clutch packs are worn if it is an automatic transmission. Either way the clutch or transmission will need to be repaired or replaced. Hope this helps, let me know how you get on.
