Hyundai Motor 2002 Elantra Air Conditioning repair.. Is the A/C necessary for the 2002 GL model? Can the belt be cut and the A/C not used? The A/C compressor has the rubber bushing falling out of it and it is seizing up causing belt wear.

Hi!!

The answer is NO, you don't need the A/C for your moror to worik. You can safely bypass the compressor.

Since your present belt is already worn, (make sure you have the belt routing label, if not, take a picture of it just to be safe), cut it and wrap it around the rest of the components, including the belt tensioner, if possible, have someone retract the tensioner while you get the exact size of the new belt, in case that there is nobody around, get the size with the tensioner released and substract 3" - 4" from the total size.

Once you have the belt size you need, take it to an Auto Parts store, they should be able to give you a belt sized to your specs.

Good Luck!! Let me know how it worked out.

Testimonial: "Thanks It was not a serpentine belt but a dedicated belt for the A/C. BTW: there was also a dedicated belt for the power steering"

I have a 2002 Hyundai Elantra and it backfires and check engine

if the car is back firring the timming is off, which means the timming belt might have jumped. you could have a tentioner going bad and that could be the cause or you might be do for a timming belt, for that modle car they say you should do the timming belt every 60,000. that is where i would start.

Access air conditioning coil on Hyundai Elantra

I assume you are referring to the evaporator coil. It should be underneath the dash up close to the firewall. Accessing it would require a considerable amount of disassembly of the heater/air conditioner components. This is not a do-it-yourself project.

My hyundai elantra gl xd rear end motor knocking real loud

I personally would never operate a vehicle that is missing a bearing much less floating around on the innards, whether or not its worth the $$$ only u can answer that...Do you enjoy the vehicle is it still in good shape otherwise that would allow u to drive it for many more years once the repair is done. Call around to the local engine shops for quotes and ensure you get a good warrantee.

Good luck
