Removing exhaust manifold

No, a new exhaust gasket (aluminium + asbestos) squashes and seals. All the studs have to be present, and the exhaust manifold must not be warped.

You will have to remove the exhaust bracket first.

Water pump is driven by timing chain idler and is mounted on the rear of the timing chain housing. Disconnect the neg. battery cable. Drain cooling system. Disconnect oxygen sensor connector.
Remove upper exhaust manifould heat sheild. Remove exhaust manifold brace. Remove lower exhaust manifold heat sheild. Loosen manifold to exhaust manifold spring loaded nuts. Remove radiator outlet pipe to water pump coverbolts. Disconnect exhaust pipe from manifold.
Pull down on the exhaust pipe to disconnect it from exhaust manifold bolts. Disconnect outlet pipe from oil pan and transaxle. If equipped with manual tranaxle, remove exhaust maifold brace. Leave lower radiator hose attached and pull down on radiator out look pipe to disengauge from water pump. Leave outlet pipe hanging.
Lower vehicle. Remove exhaustmanifold to cylinder head nuts. Remove exhaust manifold to cylinder head nuts. Remove manifould. Remove timing chain front cover. Remove timing chain tensioner. Remove bolts bolts securing water pump cover to cylinder block. Remove water pump to timing chain housing nuts. Remove water pump attaching nuts. Remove water pump and cover assembly. Separate componets as necessary.
WHEN INSTALLING WATER PUMP MAKE SURE YOU FOLLOW THE TIGHTENING SEQUENCES THAT AFFECT SEALING. My frist one I messed up and broke the pump so becarful.
Installation
If cover was separated from body during removal, join this componets with a new gasket and hand tighten bolts. Apply bearing grease to splines of water pump drive. Set body and assemble into position.
Install and hand tighten bolts securing cover to cylinder block. Install and hand tighten bolts securing cover to cylinder block. Installand hand tighten nuts securing body to timing chain housing. Lubracate outlet pipe "O" ring with antifreeze. (I use RTV) Connect outlet pipe. Install and hand tighten bolts. Tighten bolts and nuts to specification in the following sequence. I'll ad the torque spec. at the end but this is where if you tighten out of order something will break.
pump assembly to timing chain housing nuts.
pump cover to pump body bolts
pump cover to cylinder block bolts (Bottom Bolt First)
outlet pipe to cover bolts
To complete installation reverse removel procedure.
Torque specs are 19 in. or 26mm all except water pump cover bolts which are 124 in or 14Nm
I never torque the bolts just make sure there done in the right order.

Cylinder Head Removal & Installation To Remove:

1. Remove the intake manifold.
2. Remove the timing belt.
3. Disconnect the exhaust pipe from the manifold.
4. Remove the water outlet pipe and o-rings.
5. Remove the water passage assembly.
6. Remove the water pipe assembly.
7. Remove the breather hose and spark plug cables from the rocker covers.
8. Remove the rocker cover.
9. Disconnect the camshaft position sensor connector.
10. Loosen the cylinder head mounting bolts in 3 steps, using the reverse of the installation sequence. Lift the cylinder head assembly and remove the head gasket.

To Install:

1. Clean the engine and cylinder head sealing surfaces.
2. Install the new gasket on the engine with the identification mark facing up and to the front.
3. Using 3 even steps, torque the head bolts in sequence, to 76-83 ft-lbs. (105-115 Nm). Cylinder head bolt tightening sequence
   
4. Connect the camshaft position sensor connector.
5. Install the rocker cover.
6. Install the breather hose and spark plug cables from the rocker covers.
7. Install the water pipe assembly.
8. Install the water passage assembly.
9. Install the water outlet pipe and o-rings.
10. Disconnect the exhaust pipe from the manifold.
11. Install the timing belt.
12. Install the intake manifold.

Removal & Installation 2.2L Engine To Remove:

1. Remove or disconnect the following:
   • Negative battery cable.
   • Heat shield.
   • Oxygen sensor.
2. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
3. Remove exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold.
4. Lower the vehicle.
5. Remove the exhaust manifold mounting nuts from the cylinder head.
   
   
6. Remove the exhaust manifold.
7. Clean the mating surfaces.
8. Check for cracks, broken flanges and gasket surface damage.
9. Use a straight edge and a feeler gauge. If the flanges or the mating surfaces do not align, the manifold is warped and should be replaced.

To Install:
NOTE: The manufacturer recommends using new exhaust system nuts.

1. Install the manifold gasket.
2. Position the exhaust manifold to the cylinder head. Exhaust manifold 2.2L
   
   
3. Install the new exhaust manifold nuts. Tighten the nuts starting from the center and working toward the ends to 110 in lbs (12.5 Nm).
4. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
5. Install the exhaust pipe to the manifold using a new flex coupler gasket.
6. Install new exhaust flange mounting nuts.
   • Tighten to 33 ft lbs (45 Nm).
7. Lower the vehicle.
8. Install the oxygen sensor.
9. Install the heat shield.
10. Connect the negative battery cable.

2.4L Engine To Remove:

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable
2. Disconnect the Oxygen (O2) sensor electrical connector.
3. Remove the (O2) sensor.
4. Raise and safely support the vehicle. Exhaust brace 2.4L
   
   
5. Remove the exhaust manifold brace-to-manifold bolt and the oil pan nuts, if necessary. Exhaust heat shield 2.4L
   
   
6. Remove the upper heat shield. NOTE: Do NOT bend the exhaust flex decoupler more than necessary to remove it. Excessive movement will damage the flex decoupler

7. Remove the manifold-to-exhaust flex decoupler fasteners.
8. Remove the exhaust pipe.
9. Carefully lower the vehicle.
10. Remove the exhaust manifold-to-cylinder head mounting nuts/bolts. Remove the exhaust manifold.
11. Discard the gaskets and/or seals. Clean the mating surfaces.

To Install:
Exhaust manifold 2.4L

1. Install new exhaust manifold gaskets. Position the exhaust manifold on the cylinder head. Tighten the mounting bolts in sequence to 110 in lbs (12.5 Nm).
2. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
3. Install the exhaust manifold heat shield. Tighten the mounting bolts to 10 ft. lbs (14 Nm).
4. Install the exhaust manifold brace-to-manifold bolt and the oil pan nuts. Tighten the mounting bolts to 41 ft lbs (56 Nm) and the nuts to 18 ft lbs (24 Nm).
5. Position the exhaust pipe to the manifold. Install the manifold-to-flex decoupler mounting bolts. Tighten to 26 ft lbs (35 Nm).
6. Lower the vehicle.
7. Coat the threads with a suitable anti-seize compound and install the O2 sensor.
8. Connect the O2 sensor electrical connector.
9. Connect the battery ground cable and check for leaks.

drop the tranny and it will be right there

mitsubishi offered several different motors, if you have a 4G63 or 4G64 (spyder), it is under the intake manifold, you will need to remove the battery to make it easier.
If you have the dodge 420a motor, I don't know off the top of my head

if its a 4 cylinder it will the 02 sensor closest or if not in the exhaust manifold

should be in the bottom end of the exhaust manifold or the actual exhaust pipe befoe the cat ,
