Transmission not working right

Have the transmission pressure tested to see if it is OK. The shift solenoids may be weak or the valve body may be worn enough to not allow pressure to build. You might just want to rebuild the transmission.

My 2003 cavalier automatic transmission slips in last high gear

The slip is likely always there you just feel it the most in top gear because that is when the most stress is on the clutch pack inside the transmission. You will need to have the transmission overhauled in most cases to correct this.

Slipping transmision

First check the Automatic Transmission fluid for proper level and add as necessary. If the transmission slips in all gears, then the torque converter might be bad or worn out. If it slips in only 1 or 2 gears, the clutches may be worn out inside the transmission. A transmission rebuild is indicated in the latter situation. Make sure that the proper Transmission fluid is used as indicated in the manual or on the dipstick (if printed on it).
