My 2000 chevy astro van stopped abruptly as I was going up hill. After trying to start it numerous times it finally caught but ran raggedly. I was able to coax it to the gas station by putting it in neutral where it would straighten out a little then putting it into gear and thus jackrabbited it to the gas station. I put in some high octane gas hoping that would fix it. No change. I then had it towed home and it does not catch at all when I crank it.

pull off the center console inside the van to expose the engine. the distributor will be right in front of you. remove 2 screws from the cap, and make sure you get the wires on in the exact order you remove them, or else it wont start. rotor is underneath cap, and i believe the coil is right there on the cap.

Check to see if the fuel pump is kicking in,
when you turn the key on without starting the van you should hear it kick on for about 2 seconds,

It could be...
A clogged fuel filter...
Blown fuse for the pump..or bad pump relay..
No gas
Bad fuel pump

crank shaft sen. is easy enough to change.its mounted near timing chain cover,cam sen.is somewhat harder,its in the distributor,id doubt that both are defect

What you have to do is check and see if you have fuel pressure.You have to remove the engine cover to check it.If you don`t have a pressure tester then remove the air cleaner hose to the engine and spray it with carb.cleaner or brake cleaner.If it starts for a few seconds then it is more than likely a fuel pump.If it does not start then you have to check for spark at the spark plugs.Make sure you check more than one plug.If no spark then you have to check the distributor cap and rotor.Make sure the rotor is good and cap also.Things that can cause no spark are the ignition module,coil,and cap and rotor.Hope this helps.Good luck.
