No engine told. size, this tells what transmission sites behind it.
1999 Dodge RAM 1500????? not VAN. 1500
2wd or 4wd'/
5 engines. then.
check all fuses, some have stand alone TCM brain (tranny)
scan the PCM for P07xx error (tranny)
check ATF levels hot, park ,idle, only do not overfill it ever.
ATF+3 (not sure but do check)
they used 3 transmission then
4-speed 42RH-RE automatic
4-speed 46RH-RE automatic
4-speed 47RH-RE automatic

42RE , is electronic shifted,
OD gear is dead or just the TCC lockup deaD
best is count the gears more carefully to see truth.
yes 4th gear is OD Geared. 3rd gear is 1:1 lockup.
.74-to-1 for first, 1.54-to-1 for second, direct 1.00-to-1 for third and 0.69-to-1 for fourth.(OD)
scab the PCM
to see if errors from the transmission show up.
I bet they do.
the 3>4 shift solenoid must work, .and no pressure errors.
the schematics show an OD switch if not closed OD does not happen, forget about that switch>
if car is 4wd and is in 4wd, many cars/ and truck all shut off
OD in 4wd, by logic inside the PCM (pure) my not be true on the biggest engine not told.

I have a 1999 dodge ram 1500 5.9 engine 46re transmission 4x4 i need another transmission what can i get another transmission out of that will work?

As bowtie352 said, according to the Hollander number only 98 & 99 will fit your truck but just in case you didn't know the Ram 2500 and 3500 should fit as well in 99 & 98. the ID # for the 1998 is 52119516 & in 1999 the ID # is 52119823. By the way the Hollander # is 400-3256. I have been in the auto repair business for way to many years but have come across a problem with this very transmission a number of times. I I can't remember the daignostic trouble code (DTC) but this problem did cause the check engine light to come on and did receive a DTC dealing with the transmission. The symptoms that the customers transmission was having was that the transmission would not downshift back to first gear and the vehicle would start from a stop in higher gear and not in first gear. Now the reason I am mentioning all the is that I have tried changing the wire harness inside the transmission and this solved the problems in all of them except a couple of them. Not saying this will fix your transmission if you are dealing with the same problem/symptom just letting you know of my experience with this same transmission. The Dodge dealership does sell this wire harness as a separate part and I think the retail cost of the harness is somewhere around a hundred daollars. Hope this helps...

My speedometer stopped working 1998 dodge ram and the air bag light came on and stayed on. I replaced both speed sensors(back differential and transmission). Still not working and any ideas?

hi ,the air bag light will need resetting ,have it reset by an auto shop who has a diagnostic machine to plug into it,some dont even charge for this service ,as for the speedo it could be a number of things that will need checking ,firstly fuses, then wiring leading from the speed sensor on the transmission up to the speedometer in the dash ,then have the speedometer removed and checked ,it has to be one of these ,THANK YOU FOR USING FIX YA

Power lock help

Hello,

More often than not, when the ABS light is stuck "on" in a dodge ram, it means a fuse has blown.

The first step would be to check your "master fuse box" under the hood (a black plastic box between the brake booster and the battery) for any major fuses that have blown.

After that, feel free to check your smaller fuse panel underneath the dash for blown fuses.

I hope this helps!
