This could be because of a long list of reasons. It could be anything from a faulty engine sensor to a worn engine part. I would recommend taking it to a good mechanic so he can look and drive the car to find the problem.
Stuck lean O2 sensors may cause too rich of a fuel command decreasing mileage .
Most likely the Mass Airflow Sensor and throttle body need cleaning. It is that which controls the petrol/air mix. Also check for codes.
