I just changed my ford laser car 1988 model starter motor

I just changed my ford laser automatic car 1988 model tested second hand starter motor but it does not start although battery is fully charged. There is 2 electrical cable one a ring connecter which bolted to the starter motor and there is another wire with a lug pin . There is also another wire with lug pin coming from the relay square looking item which is mounted on the wall below the windscreen under the bonnet this wire also has a lug ending near the starter motor . which of the lug goes where ?

I look forward to your expert advice. Tks Joe

Plug the lug wire (Bullet connector into the starter (Bullet connector) from relay and you should be set. the square thing is the starter relay and wehn you turn the key to start mode it powers the relay that then starts the motor. this is a safety feature so the starter don't get stuck trying to start the car all the time. If you need help post to this replay and if helpful please rate this answer.

djstar sorry I did not get back to you I had not seen a e-mail respoding to your responce to my answer, thank you for rating. Now please tell me it the starter clciks or not also you need to check the safety netural switch if it still does not work. If you have an ohm meter you can test the safety netural switch by disconnecting the battery and apply parking brake and pull harness connector of the transmisson safety netural switch, it will be on the side of the transmisson, you will need to test it in park if you get a reading fro the switch needle swings all the way to the right if the meter is at zero on the left then you have connection if it reads zero then the swich is bad. They go out often and I will give you a web page to look at the starter and the safety netural switch. I can't find a lazer but here is a starter is this looking like yours? http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp/...___

and here is the safety netural switch

    http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp/...___

let me know if this helps so I can get back to you.

97 ford mustang convert v6 automatic has a slow crank when starting ,changed the altenator had battery tested what should I try next

Check the starter. If your power supply (battery) is fresh and healthy, then a slow crank can really only be caused by a failing starting motor.

Hi there
Tap the starter motor and solenoid with the wooden (handle) part of the hammer to loosen the internal workings, a possible layer of rust formed on the inside of the starter.

1988 JEEP STARTER

Generally the difference will be the starter nose design and tooth spacing on the bendix drive. The starter motor and casing are likely the same. Don't use a starter for an automatic or the other way around ever. If you damage the flywheel it will cost you lots!!! You can "graft" one nose assembly (drive&nose) to another motor if you are careful!
