Verify battery condition by turning on headlights and seeing if they are bright. If ok, the theft system may be activated. Try locking and unlocking doors with the key fob. This will usually reset the theft deterent system.
Many times the dealer gives you a valet key made to give to the vet to park your car, these keys work even though the theft deterant system is active, but they will only work for short periods untill the theft system activates and imobolizes the vehicle. The system is reset when the valet brings your vehicle and you insert your normal (chiped) key.
First make sure all tires including the spare have 35 psi, if that is the only problem the light will go off, there may be a reset switch on the lower part of the dash, it says "set" on it, push the button and hold it in, turn the key on and wait for the light to flash three times, release the button, if the light comes back on there is a problem with the system, possibly one of the sensors is not sending a signal, this will require going to a toyota dealer to correct.
You will need a 1632 Watch Electronics battery to begin. Press the bottom portion of the button/lever on the side of the key fob ( it says push and has a picture of a key on it). This lever will is on a spring and will push in, comparable to a door. Remove the key. Using the key or flathead screwdriver, insert the flat end into the opening, made visible by removal of the key. Apply light pressure to the area: the two halves will separate. Carefully remove the circuit board to expose your battery compartment, change battery and reverse operations.
the light has to be reset you serviced the car before it was time and the light was not reset then. on the highlander im not sure how to reset it im thinking that all you have to do is turn the key to the on posistion and step on the gas pedal 3 times or you have to push the trip counter in and hold it for 15 seconds if neither one of these works take it to your service center they should be able to reset it for free.
If the anti-theft light is flashing then it is in theft mode. If this is the case turn the key on and wait 1 hour then cycle the key to see if it starts if it does you have a anti-theft problem see dealer. sorry.
