97 sebring convertible wont shift past 2nd gear...wiring harness??

the automatic transmission is a complex thing. if you have a vacuum leak or any number of other things or broken parts inside. it will not work correctly. my suggestion is to call the local trany shop that does free quotes and have them take a look. they may have seen other cars like yours with the same problem and be able to tell you what the issue is and give you a cost to repair. replacing it might not fix the problem if like you think its a wiring issue or a vacuum leak. if it was low on fluid it would be slipping and or not even go into gear to make it move.. did it just stop working and if so did it make any noises and is the engine light on and what codes did you have.

If my 1990 gmc sierra 1500 2wd automatic 5.7 wont shift past 2nd is it possible that if I just replace the torque converter that it will be good as new or do I have to change the whole transmission

neither
the torque converter has nothing to do with the gear shifting and unless the transmission is making weird and funny noises , there is every possibility that it is still good
the procedure that you should be following here is to have the fault codes read as it may be a servo/ solenoid that is faulty , a VSS ( vehicle speed sensor) that is faulty or a TCM ( transmission control module ) that is faulty
All of these pieces control gear shifting so the second gear or 3rd gear servo may be out or the TCM is not shifting the ratio
Best thing is to find an accredited transmission specialist shop ( not you local garage or it will be a new transmission for sure) and get it diagnosed properly first and then get quotes

P1775 code in showing up on my 2008 jeep wrangler x. How do you fix that?

we can not answer what you can do or fix.
only how to diagnose, or is this just a please guess for me post?
got tools, got a real scan tool?
is this a 5 buck code reader that misses most codes.
or a real one (ask for good tools)
if a real tool, it will show all codes, and you must know them all
or go astray. P0841? present? too>?

42RLE box.::: one code only, my guess.

i have this car, (m/t) and full FSM, on it,
Ill decode this and tell you what page to read in the FSM
it shows what to do next and the tests to prove this out.
P= power train
P1 means factory code ( so dont read ford codes)
SOLENOID SWITCH VALVE LATCHED IN TCC POSITION
TCC means torque converter clutch. lock up device. failure.
that means transmission, (id didnt say its bad)
the transmission on your car is automatic, unlike my stick
it has a TCM brain, hidden in the PCM brain
but its real and there. for sure. inside.
and it shifts for you, this brain,. in DRIVE

here is the 1st page on this code. in fsm book.

The Solenoid Switch Valve, an internal, hydraulically operated valve, controls the direction of the transmission
fluid when the LR solenoid is energized. When the solenoid switch valve is in the downshifted position and the
LR solenoid is energized, fluid is directed to the LR element for 1st gear. When the solenoid switch valve is In
the up-shifted position (2nd, 3rd, and 4th gear) and the LR solenoid is energized, fluid is directed into the
Lockup Switch Valve which controls the Torque Converter Clutch. When shifting into 1st gear, a special
sequence is followed to insure solenoid switch valve movement into the downshifted position. The LR pressure
switch is monitored to confirm switch valve movement. If the solenoid switch valve movement is not confirmed
(i.e. no LR pressure when the LR solenoid is energized), 2nd gear is substituted for 1st. No 1st gear (2nd gear is
substituted). The transmission Torque converter FEMCC operation is inhibited. MIL on after 5 min. of
substituted operation.
Monitor Conditions
When Monitored:
Prior to a shift into 1st gear.
possible causes:
RELATED DTC P0841 PRESENT?
(T16) TRANSMISSION CONTROL OUTPUT CIRCUIT OPEN
(T50) L/R PRESSURE SWITCH SENSE CIRCUIT OPEN
(T50) L/R PRESSURE SWITCH SENSE CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND
(T50) L/R PRESSURE SWITCH SENSE CIRCUIT SHORT TO VOLTAGE
INTERNAL TRANSMISSION
POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE

the book says have the dealer
do a full transmission check using there (unique) fancy tool..
seems to be good advice.

below is the interface tcm.<> box.
solenoid and read back switches.
if the trans is not bad, then this switch is bad (fibbing)
or the wires rusty there... re-seat them yet?

P0700 TCM has requested PCM to run on Check engine light to alert to a fault in the automatic transmission.

Won't shift properly

Your probably pulling OBD Code P0758, just like mine is. Ive changed the trans in a customers car now 3 times with the same result. Hard shift into rev and 2 but no third gear. I believe its the TCM or wiring harness. Check to have the TCM Completely flashed and re-written by the dealer, this may help, if Not replace the TCM is my only other options, because I do not believe that 3 transmissions have been bad.

Ford trauras trouble code 732 - was told transmission code 732 was being produced, what does a code 732 say?

P0732 FORD - Incorrect Second Gear Ratio
Transmission in second gear and the ECM detected an incorrect gear ration. This diagnosis monitors actual gear position by checking the torque converter slip ratio calculated by Transmission Control Module (TCM) as follows:

Torque converter slip ratio = A x C/B

A: Output shaft revolution signal from revolution sensor
B: Engine speed signal from Engine Control Module (ECM)
C: Gear ratio determined as gear position which TCM supposes

If the actual gear position is higher than the position (2nd) supposed by TCM, the slip ratio will be more than normal. In case the ratio exceeds the specified value, TCM judges this diagnosis malfunction.

Symptoms
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
- Incorrect transmission shifting

Possible causes
- Low transmission fluid level
- Dirty transmission fluid
- Shift solenoids
- Transmission mechanical problems
- Transmission hydraulic control circuit

Tech notes
Start by inspecting the transmission fluid level and condition, and change fluid if necessary.

Hope helps.

97 chevy half ton, all these problems are intermittent. Auto transmission, wont shift down to first or up to od, so all I have is 2nd and 3rd. when the transmission isnt working my tack and speedo do...

97 c1500 or k1500,. not told. just 1/2 ton sure. K1500 is 4wd got that?
the 4wd sensors are not the same. ok? no engine told either, guess 4.3L only
4L60-E; 4 speed Automatic trans. or 4L80e
that is and E box, electronically TCM shifted.
and the speed sensors must all work!! must !
it it can not shift correctly.
that is a fact.
you replaced 1 but never say the speedo was fixed, yes the speedo matters
OD is 4th gear,
the TCM can be scanned, why not do that?
stuck in 2nd gear is common for TRANNY LIMPHOME
it does that when sensors or solenoids go bad.
making car safe to drive to a shop only that is all limphome means just that.
beats a 100% dead car no? for sure.

sensors all 2, input speed and outputs speed, and if 4wd OSS is on the rear of 4wd transfer care, moved, for 4wd.
solenoids not bad in box. 1>2 and 2>3 shift and 3<4 shift.
scan the TCM.

the ECM on the car 4.3L runs the Tranny (TCM logic) 12 connection.
so not scanning the ECM OBD2 port ,you fully miss the boat and it sailed
the good ship of facts gone. DTC errors for sure missed.
