Maybe a new starter but the bendix drive gear is not kicking into the flywheel teeth. Take the starter off and connect to a battery momentarily to see the bendix drive gear is jumping out. If not, replace the bendix on it or take it back and tell them it's a faulty starter.
Does your starter fully retract when disengaging? Your problem may be one of geometry if the starter is slightly out of position it will rub on the flywheel, or the Bendix gear isn't fully retracting.Try hitting the starter with a mallet to see if the Bendix gear pops back out fully after you start your car.
If it's out try to turn the gear one way then the other,if it spins easily in either direction ,the "bendix" spring is broken,the starter will hit the flywheel but disengage right away. If it doesn't hit the ring gear at all,look at the teeth on the flywheel,also when you put it back in be sure to tighten the bolts evenly, .
It may be the starter dive teeth are worn from hitting the flywheel. Replace the starter drive or easier yet just install a rebuilt starter. If there were shims in the old one replace the shims in the proper location or you may need to either leave them out or add more to be sure the starter drive is properly engaging the flywheel.
You will need to verify if the starter solenoid is getting power when you are attempting to crank it. I dont have a diagram, but the clutch switch may be the problem if you must depress the clutch to start the engine.
Did the original starter have shims? It may need some. Get a delco starter and new bolts. Rebuilt non delco starters give trouble and do not last. Check flywheel teeth.
