SOURCE: I need to know how to recoded the key for my jetta 1999. I changed it batteries and still does not work

1 simple step for you sir is that take your sweet heart i mean to say your loving car to the nearest authorised VW, SKODA, AUDI..etc. dealer or service centre where you will be free out of trouble free hazards free from your cars problem b'cause most of the car comes equipped with ECU or ECM unit which control the total electrical function of your car so some time after changing the batteries of your key then also it need to get programmed so till then have happy motoring my friend & see U soon.!

SOURCE: Recoding "spare" key for car after ignition cylinder was replaced

Add Duplicate Key (PK3 or PK3+ key)
1. Insert an existing working key into the ignition cylinder.
2. Turn the ignition cylinder to ON (RUN) and back to OFF.
3. Remove the existing key and, within fifteen seconds, insert the new key
and turn it to ON (RUN).
4. The security light will light up for two seconds to indicate success in programming
the key into the vehicle.

SOURCE: lost car keys to T-reg Ford Mondeo

Don't do that yet, You have two best options, 1st. before you go though all that, hoping Toyota still keep the key code back from 1998 other wise you have to go with 2nd option. take your registration or title to the dealership and ID card showing them your the owner to that car. any toyota dealership would be able to cut another key for that car with the vin number, its allot cheaper and less head ache replacing it; will cost couple of bucks. 2nd call a lock smith, they will come out and cut the key for about 100-150 bucks using the the trunk unit and you still be able to use the keys for everything. Replacing your ignition will be much more and you have to fiddle and installing it. it not that hard but time consuming although i would make it my last options. If you have car insurance, some of them may have a lock out policy. they pay for the lock smith to come out and cut the keys.

SOURCE: change locks

most Gm use a chip in the keys. the doors with be easy to ,but the ignition will not. you will need to go to the dealership and have them remove the lock from the ignition and re program the new key

My ninety nine Acura Cl was stolen and ignition switch was damaged so I bought a new one and it came with three keys two black and one gray key after installation the car will turnover but wont start...

Question?. do you still have the original keys. The reason that I ask is you have 2 options, take the car to a dealer (towed) and they can reset the computer. Option 2 is easier, take your original key and your new ignition (obviously you know how to remove the barrel because you have changed it), take both to a good locksmith and have your new lock recoded to your old key (take the keys so they can remove the barrell), this will allow you to use your old key and your computer will forget that it was stolen The option is yours

I have the key but the alarm remote is broken. How do i defuse the alarm?

the joys of modern cars is that it leaves little for us do unless you have the tools(the remote key fob)without it the car is next to useless.you CANNOT bypass the management systems so you must buy 2 remotes(if you dont have the spare)and then get the car recoded with the keys/remotes.(wait untill you find out how much they cost....ouch)loads of people get caught out buying a car without the remotes, and then take it out on us mechs.WE KNOW BETTER.WE GO DEAF.......

Wont Start

Could be the immobiliser.  Do you have the original keys?  If your key does not have a remote unlock, it's likely to be a "spare" key, which doesn't have an immobiliser chip in it.  If you take your VIN to your dealer, they can get you a new key - at a cost.  I've been quoted over $400 to have a key replaced.
Hope this helps.
