First find another mechanic. You have 5 possibilities. Takes about 2 hours to figure out. 1 the key is worn out, 2 the key cylinder is worn out, 3 the solenoid for the key is bad, 4 the solenoid on the shifter is bad, 5 a bad wire.

The interlock mechanism might be out of adjustment or the lock mechanism might have a pin that is sticking.

Ignition switch won't release key when it is put in park. But when I removed switch and key tumbler, the key tumbler/cylinder releases key. Why won't the key release when it is in park?

Most newer models have a safety feature called
shift interlock. This prevents the key from being turned back
to the lock position if you forget to place the gear selector in park.
Depending on the model,
If it uses a cable, it may be sticking or needs adjusting.
If it uses an electrical solenoid. may be blown fuse or park switch.
Tap, shake, and pull up on the shifter and make sure it's in park.

2002 sunfire key stuck in the ignition (run) position, won't turn off, no gages working, and will not shift out of park. now the service and theft system lights are on

Sounds as if the ignition cylinder is bad. You will have to replace it if the key is stuck. It is a lot easier to replace with the key in the on position as that will be required to remove the cylinder. If you get the key out and then the cylinder will not turn, replacement of the cylinder will be more complicated

My key won't turn in the ignition. Therfore can't start the car.

Either steering is got stuck, try wiggling the steering wheel a bit, then try.Or the car is not in park mode.Check that.If its in park mode. Then try another key, if you have one.In most cases car owners have 2 to 3 car keys.Try with another key and see if its working. But if its not working with other key, then problem is ignition cylinder.-- Click the link below for more help:--- http://howtobyme.blogspot.com/2011/10/car-key-will-not-turn-in-ignition.html ------------- This will help.Thanks.Helpmech.

2001 honda crv I'm driving but can't take key out of ignition in Park could drive but key is stuck won't come out

Sounds like you need a new ignition. If its really stuck you will have to get a replacement key and a new ignition. Usually not to expensive and any competant shop can swap it for you. You also might want to check the neutral safety switch. That is the only switch that has to do with your drive park position.
