Do I require any special tools to remove the front passenger seat of a 2005 Volvo S40 please? The mountings seem to be hidden by plastic covers and I can't see away of removing these? Presumably they pull out somehow but they seem to be clipped in on the inside and I can't see a way of removing them. Thanks in advance for any advice. Best regards, Nick

Hi Debra, The fuse box for the Volvo are on the passenger side end of the instrument panel behind the cover....the passenger door will have to be open to access it and it is just prised off with a small screwdriver, the fuse removal tool should be inside and the fuse list should be on the reverse of the cover but I think it is No 13 fuse you need to replace!

Unbolt it from the floor pan

Some ignition system locks will not release the key unless you push in towards the column while turning further off. It is a safety device to stop in advertent removal of the key while moving. Try that first.

As you are standing at the passenger side of the vehicle (right side) the compressor is the pulley seen from under the front the engine and to the right of the front of the engine as seen on the diagram. There will probably still be a black cover protecting the under side of the engine. Go ahead and remove it.

Check your fuses, if all are operational make sure they a seated properly. We have this type of problem, but live on a dirt road and the vibrations sometimes unseat the fuses. An easy way to check is to see if these problems go away if; when the car is running you give the fuse panel, under the glove box, a solid whack with your open hand. This is a temporary fix we utilize three of four times a year.

Hello Jim...If the seat controllers for the S40 are like the C70 you can try this...There is a micro switch on the hinge part of the seat
where the seat back and bottom meet. Just inside the hinge point. There is a spring attached to a metal plate.The spring comes off because one of the tabs holding it breaks. A lot of times you can reach under there and roll the metal plate and get the seat to move back.

you need a oil filter wrench.

you have to remove seat cover on back and bottom of seat . there is a long plastic clip sowed to seat covers . push in and un hook then you can pull seat cover up to see bolts. dont pull to hard or you will rip seat cover .

your IAC valve, idle air control valve is under the black plastic cover on the front right corner on the engine, remove cover undo valve, renew gasket and re install. ade 13 years volvo tech

lol sometimes check the car manual, its a security device for when children sits in front, when the weight is not high enough on the passenger seat (i.e. child) it turns off the airbag so the kid wouldnt be hurt by the airbag in case of an accident
