I'm not sure if yours works the same way but I just have a button on my mirror that you can move all the way to the left to deactivate it.

There is some problem with the door switch(s) which should turn the lights off when the door is closed. Look closely at the switch and make sure that the proper contact is being made within the switch. There could be corrosion.

The lincoln LS had the same problems, and the lens was held to the headlight assembly with a sticky glue.
To remove them, some guys were successful by warming the headlight assembly in the oven untill the glue softened up enough to be pulled apart.
Be careful if you try this, to much head and..oops I melted my headlight
