I have a 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer. My passenger tail lights are out. I have changed the bulbs and they are still not working. I do have brake lights. Any suggestions

Be careful that you have the right type of bulb in the socket some of them were supposed to be 2 elements inside of them and some of them are meant to have only one element typically to be sure a light socket that has more than two wires going into it will be a double element bulb. As long as the existing wiring has not been modified by somebody or is broken or shorted together then this is the only problem I I think you may be having

check the bulbs if still good replace the brack light switch,which is located under dash on brake pedal

check the grounding. sounds like a short.

• For the tail light you first need to remove the brake light that is part of that assembly.
• Open the trunk.
• Inside of the trunk is some matting you need to pull down a bit.
• You may need to remove a net first.
• Once you pull the matting/carpet down you will see some plastic wing nuts around the are of the brake/tail light.
• Remove them.
• Now wiggle the brake light out
• Now wiggle the tail light out.
• Twist the socket to the bulb that is bad out.
• The bulb just pulls strait out.
• Revers to complete.

The first step is to check the bulbs in the tail lights. The brake light switch (on the brake pedal) is OK, as the center light works.

If right side bulbs are replaced and working and problem persists,,,, Beat on horn violently and vigorously while turning steering wheel to variouse positions

Open the trunk and inside you should see the rear plastic panel
of lancer's tail lights.Undo the screws using screw driver and
gently pull the assembly off.You should see 3 light bulbs.
Replace whichever is busted.

Bad earth connection.Clean or replce wire.

The bulb actually has two seperate elements in it.
That is why the tail light works fine.

If you take the bulb out you will see the seperate elements.
Change the bulb and it should be fine.

sounds like your bulb socket is bad. you can buy them in any auto shops. mine did that and i replaced it and it was fine. I would look at the one that is not working and compare the size and try it.
