Not positive about the layout of the 2001, but on my 2004 I press the button on the steering wheel that has a pic of a gas pump on it (bottom left button.) The first thing it shows is engine oil life (55%) or whatever you have left before the change. While it is displaying that message (or the change oil message) press and hold the ENTER button on the bottom right of the steering wheel. This resets the engine oil tracker to 100%.

Put the key in the ignition and turn it to the 'Run' position, but do NOT start the engine. With the key in this position, slowly push the gas pedal all the way to the floor three times. Turn the ignition to 'Off'. This should reset the oil change light. It's always worked for me (course I usually have to look it up in the manual every time!).

Turn your ignition key to the on position. Do not start the vehicle. With key in the on position, step on the gas pedal 3 times. This will reset your change oil light.

1. Insert your key into the 2001 Chevy Silverado ignition.

2 Turn your key two clicks forward into the RUN position.

3 Verify that your dashboard lights, radio and odometer turn on. Your 2001 Chevy Silverado engine should not start.

4 Push and release the accelerator pedal fully three times within five seconds while monitoring the dashboard lights. Accelerator doesn't have to be operated quickly, just make sure you have pushed it fully to the floor 3 times within 5 seconds.

5 Verify the behavior of the change oil soon light. If the change oil soon light flashes two times, the system is reset. If the change oil soon light comes on and remains lit for five seconds, the system has not reset.

6 Turn your key to the OFF position if the system did not reset, and attempt the procedure again until the change oil soon light flashes two times.

7 Start your vehicle and ensure that the oil life indicator changes to 100 percent full.

Most GM cars and trucks use this same procedure but my 2005 Impala has to be set through the radio menu.

Most Chevy trucks reset this indicator light by turning the key to the on position, and then pushing the accelerator pedal to the floor three times within five seconds. The light should start blinking and then go out. Turn the key off, and then start the engine. The light should be reset.

Have a 2005 honda accord and the maintance required light keeps blinking on and and off when i start the car up but it takes longer to stop blinking than the rest of the lights what could be wrong??

It's time for an oil change, then you reset the light.

With car off, press in your trip meter button on the gauges - while still holding it in, turn the key 2 clicks forward to power everything up but not to start it. Keep holding the button in until the light goes off. It will come on about 2 times per year reminding you to change your oil.
