How can I diagnose the SRS system on my 2012 Honda Civic Hybrid? The multi-function display on the dash is showing "Check Airbag System"

The SRS light comes on when there is a fault detected with your seat belts. You will need to scan the SRS system to get the trouble codes. you will need a high end scan tool for this. Once you know the codes you will have a much better idea of what to do next.

Only a compatible scanner is going to turn this off.Don't try to do it yourself, as with any air bag/srs (supplemental restraint system), these units contain what amounts to an explosive charge, and if not handled properly, by trained folks, they can very easily cause death, ansd a nasty one at that.As long as the system detects a snag, it will continue to turn that light back on, even if you do get it turned off. The system does a circuit check soon after the car is started, on this system, and the only way to turn off that light is to fix it. Could be as simple as a clockspring, so have it checked. This is one of the only things that I'm not really willing to give much info on, due to the potential for disaster. Sorry, it's just the old grease monkey looking out for your safety. Hello! when the light comes on it means the air beg system has a fsult and, in an accident, the bags will not deploy...very unsafe situation...Typically, one or more of these DTCs will be set: SRS DTC 15-1 (faulty OPDS unit or OPDS not initialized)... SRS DTC 15-2 (faulty side airbag indicator circuit)... SRS DTC 15-3 (faulty OPDS sensor)...To ensure continued reliability with the OPDS: American Honda is extending the warranty on the OPDS unit and the OPDS sensor to 10 years or150,000 miles, whichever occurs first.you will need to take the car to the dealer to have it checked to see if this is the problem that is causing the light to come on, there should not be a charge to check it if it is the condition that is covered by the extended warranty. It takes about 3 minutes to determine if the light is on for the OPDS or if it is some other cause. If it is caused by something else then the dealer will want to charge you for further diagnosis. At that point you can say 'no' if you don't want to go any further....my guess is it will be covered under the extended warranty.. Also, it is not a fuse and the airbags will not go off when the light SRS light is on; whenever the SRS light is on the airbag system is disabled. Unless you have the special tool, you can't just turn the light off; even if you did, it would come back on the next time you drove the car...Guru....saailer

SRS stands for "SUPPLIMENTAL RESTAINT SYSTEM" and that is the airbags. right now your system has developed a fault and has been disabled by the control module which is called the "airbag diagnostic monitor"

SRS= Supplemental Restraint System aka AIRBAG system. All Civics have srs starting in around 1992.

Go to your local auto electrician,not main dealer
He will plug in scanner to locate fault
Saftey restraint system,fault

SRS means Supplemental Reinstraint System, aka AIR-BAG
This protect the driver and the friont passenger from head injury.

Well thats one of two things. First the srs light stands for Supplemental Restraint System or in otherwords the airbag system now the light being on could be because its due for a maintance check up or there could be a problem with the system

I'm having the same problem, my SRS light is on too. Just so you know, I just got a thing in the mail from Honda for my 2001 Honda Civic DX Sedan for a recall on the airbag system (SRS is part of the same system as airbags, I think). Hope this gives you a bit more info!!
