Can I bypass the a/c compressor with the serpentine belt on my 2007 Chrysler Sebring

The a/c compressor can not be bypassed on this engine. The compressor will either need to be replaced or removed and a special bypass pulley installed in its place. The pulleys if available can be purchased from you local auto parts store.

The short answer is no. You may be able to measure the length of a belt that does not go around the ac compressor and buy that belt, but chances are you won't be able to route the belt to bypass the compressor and keep it tight.

The answer is specific to the car itself. Does it have an Air Conditioner, etc.

Drive to a NAPA or other Auto Parts Store and inquire, they will be able to find the exact belt(s) you need.

i think it has one belt but please remember i do not see many here in spain but if it it is one belt then yes it must be possible ,maybe a local auto factor will know what belt will fit

The correct way to do this fix is with a compressor delete pulley,that way the belt is still routed properly and keeps the proper tension on the belt.All the major parts houses carry some type of compressor-delete kit,(the most popular p/n for 2.7 Chrysler engines is Part Number: 34177 Dorman part.)

Sorry to say about the only way to skip the compressor is when that model came without air cond and I think they all did.
Sometimes you can buy a special pulley with bracket to bypass the compressor after you take it off.
Most of the time if you try to use a shorter belt something will be in the way of the routing, or the belt will drive a pulley the wrong direction.

Depending on your engine size ( i think there are 4 possibilities that year) there might be or you can look into removing the compressor and installing a thing called an A/C delete pulley. They are cheap (compared to a compressor, very cheap) and made to serve exactly your purpose.

Go to; daycoproducts.com, click cars and trucks, then go to serpentine belt. Then on the right side of the screen click on finding your vehicle. Then get the illistration number and click on illistrations, go to that number it should something 6-? or 7-?. It's a pretty good websight.
