Someone has copy's of my brinks house keys can I change key instead of whole lock

You got Rick's lock and key in Chattanooga Tennessee there is Ace lock and key there is some more if u need them I dont know where ur from but made these would help and u could order them

Start by removing the two lower shroud screws and remove the upper and lower steering column cover.
Look along the lower casing of the lock cylinder housing and you will see a small (1/8") hole with a pin in it.
Put the key in the cylinder and turn it to run. While in this position, push the pin into the lock cylinder and pull the key and cylinder out.
To install, turn the new key in the new cylinder to run position and slide it into the housing. To lock it in place, turn the key to the off position.

To change the ignition switch you need to remove the cowls around the steering column to expose the ignition switch. Once you have done that re-insert the key and place it in the ACC position (this is the position for most switches). Look around the lock housing to locate a pin or tongue in the housing, With the key in this position, it should be possible to extract the lock and switch with the steering lock attached. On most vehicles it will be possible to change the switch only, but some the whole mock mechanism will have to be replaced as a unit.

Sounds like you will need to replace your ignition key switch.Recommending a used one at local auto wreckers most inexpensive route to go.

I've got an even cheaper and easier solution, instead of buying a new cylinder, find that plug and snip the orange wires going to the old cylinder.Then remove the resistor chip from the key and solder each of the the wires to each side. this will fool the car into thinking the correct resistor chip is in place, allowing you to use the original key or any copies with or without resistor chips. i just did this to my caddy and it roared to life! :)

start the engine and then turn off and lock ur steering and it will work

you can only push this detent pin in when ignition is in on position try to put key that snapped in and wriggle it around to try and turn ignition to on position so then you can remove barrel
if cant turn need to change whole assembly by un doing shear pin for clamp that holds whole assembly on steering column or do what some lock smiths do drill out old barrel slowly and going up in drill sizes until barrel comes out from housing without damaging housing

You are going to have to spring for a locksmith unless someone in your family has a key. Next time, keep a factory made key (copies tend to screw up the $250-300 ignition module, yeah its that much) at a family member's house. Or hide one very carefully somewhere not around your car or house. If you try picking the door lock or using slim jims, you could cause expensive damage. I don't know why anybody would steal this rental-car looking heap, but they have a huge theft-deterrent system in the cars.

dont blame the idiot,we all make stupid mistakes without thinking and iam no exception,remove door trim and oil the solonoid with a oil can not a silly sunday mechanic spray and let it soak in as its working but i think its just a bit sticky with wear and dirt ingress hence it locks but doesnt unlock which might need a bit more power,oil the whole lot lock and all
