you have to test them with a pressure gauge which is normally on the fuel rail on the engine. You can often hire the gauges from AutoZone. As regards to 'not working', you should be able to hear the pump when the ignition of switched off. Check the fuse and the relay if you suspect sabotage.
Mitsubishi usually places their engine code numbers on the engine block. They are stamped on a flat surface usually on the passenger side and should be viewable without removing too much stuff. These stamped numbers can be faint at times if the stamp machine did not indent the number deeply. On later models, the numbers are located near the oil filter and below the spark plugs area. Mitsubishi also posted metal plaques on the firewall to show engine model as well.

I just bought a Pajero with Engine Nr 4D56 and Chassis V24
with Automaitc transmission.
The gearbox do not change to last level / shift. it maeans 1
is ok, 2 is ok, 3 is okay but the last not enter and force the car at 80km/h at
3500 rotation.
What can be the problem? the diesel consumption is high and
force the engine. I am desesperated.
