Go to www.luciousgarage.com and watch the video. You can pull the entire front bumper assembly in about 5 minutes. It's a lot easier than following this video.

SOURCE: Need to change headlight on 1998 Toyota Corolla

Unless you have really small hands, you are going to have to unbolt the battewry bracket, and move the battery backwards as far as possible. Then you will be able to see the connection where the bulb socket mounts behind the headlamp. There are 2 different styles of bulbs that you may find...
If you see a large rubber ring, remove it, and undo the silver clip to extract the bulb.
If the wiring/socket goes directly into the back of the headlamp, simply twist the socket 1/4 turn, and pull it out.

SOURCE: changing a headlight

As with most auto headlights, you will access them from within the engine compartment.

There will be a wiring harness that plugs into the back of the lamp. Be careful not to damage the locking clip that holds the wire firmly onto the lamp. Move the harness out of the way and grasp the connector portion of the lamp and twist COUNTERCLOCKWISE to release the lamp from the housing, and plug the bad lamp out.

When installing the new lamp, be sure NOT to touch the glass lamp as the oils from your skin can damage the bulb by creating a 'HOT SPOT'. As a rule of thumb and good auto maintenance you should ALWAYS replace both lamps at the same time. Headlamp bulbs deteriorate over time and will get dimmer as they age. Why get dirty twice when you can do it just one time. Besides most lamps are sold in MATCHED pairs so the intensity will be the same for both the left and right sides of the car.

Hope this answers your question.

Cheers,

Keith

2008 Toyota Prius high and low beam headlight on the drivers side not working. Is it the bulb? I've never seen high and low beam go out together.

Might be. Take a look and measure the voltage going to the bulb at the point where it enters the cluster.

How to Replace Headlight Bulb on 2005 Prius?

Remove fender well trim ( a few screws)
Remove front bumper COVER (not the bumper- the plastic cover)
About 14 screws. Mostly on the underside, get a creeper, and a few
on the top.

Remove the (left or right side) Headlight assembly ( a couple more screws).
One assembly contains the headlight, turn signal and running light. Unplug
the electrical connector from the assembly. All bulbs remove from the back
of the headlight assembly. Headlight is held in place by bail wire, smaller
bulbs are 1/4 turn.

2011 Prius fuse box

The NHW20 Prius' 12v accessory outlets each have their own fuse in the
fuse box under the steering column. (Those fuses are sadly easy to
blow.) You'll either have to lay on the floor on the driver's side
and look up, or use a mirror, to see the fuse box location. You'll
have to pull off the panel door to see the fuses. The fuses are
marked in the diagram on the inside of this fuse box cover panel.

Prius headlights work only on highbeam

There should be separate fuses for high and low beams on a Prius. If one of your headlight bulbs is bad, it could have blown the low-beam fuse. Check for blown fuses behind driver's side headlight fuse panel. If new one blows, replace headlight bulbs and try again.

On 2004-2009 Prius, driver's side headlamp bulb can be replaced by removing hold down screws and folding fuse panel upward to access rear of headlight assembly. Large round cover with 3 tabs unscrews about 1/4 turn to remove. It's really tight and held by friction of large O-ring so it'll take some muscle but it will eventually give. Be careful replacing bulbs as metal clips can be easily installed incorrectly resulting in tilted headlight beam. 3-tabs must rest on flat surfaces on mounting area before spring clip can be latched in place. 3-prong plug can be wiggles sideways/up and down to remove from bulb.

Prius high beam lights work but low beam lights do not work?

On a 2008 Prius, If both High beams work but only one side has working low beams, then it is most likely a fuse. So before breaking your knuckles to change the bulb, check the fuse first. I found out the hard way as my mom distressed to me that her drivers side headlights were out. So without checking to see if low and high were working, I proceeded to remove and replace the bulb - ouch! There are 4 10 amp fuses that protect the circuits for low/high beam function. They are under the hood in the fuse box on the drivers side and they are marked on the box cover. Check them before changing the bulb.

Dash lights go off when head lights are turned on.

Your car is perfectly fine. Your dash dimmer is turned all the way down. Your dash dimmer automatically turns on with your headlights. You need to locate your dash dimmer and turn it up.( will be easy to locate with owners manual).

How to change a headlight light bulb on toyota prius 2006?

they are usually changed from inside the engine compartment. you should be able to gain access to the bulb behind each headlight bazel. the socket often has to be turned to remove it. be careful not to touch the new bulb with your fingers as that will shorten it's lifespan. you may have to remove the battery if the burnt out bulb is on that side.
