Intermittent starting problems

Upon inserting and turning the key, the car does not always start. When it does not start, I can hear a click and then nothing happens. It acts as though the battery has gone flat or the immobiliser has kicked in.

I have similar problem with wife's B200. Am told it's the neutral/park sendor in the gearbox, which prevents car starting unless in park or neutral. Dealer wants AUD$1200 to remove gearbox to replace faulty switch sensor. Will update this website on repair outcomes.

Sounds like the starter motor brushes are on the way out. next time it doesnt start get someone to hold the key in the start position and hit the sarter on the side but be carefull as this may start your vehicle.

The way to approach this sreies of issues is to first remove the remote start/alarm from the equation and restore the vans electrical system back to original. From there, if it persists, we can do more trouble shooting. Let me know and I can walk you through the process. This is definately a problem that does require a diagnostician. Thank you for the level of detail you provided!

Turn key 4x to build pressure, on 4th try complete Start seq.

is the engine actually cranking when it doesnt start or do you hear just one "click" each time you turn the key? if the engine is cranking, i would suspect a fuel problem, possibly fuel filter if it wasnt changed when the fuel pump was done. if it is not cranking and you hear one "click" upon turning the key, i would suspect faulty starter or connection problem.

You need to have the starter removed and have the starter contacts replaced. They are burnt. This is a common problem.
