1998 Ford Windstar - Heat, AC and vent air will only come out of the defrost vent on the windshield. Is something blocked on the vents on the floor and dash?
Most likley you have a vaccume leak somewhere but also the linkage to the door that that directs the air flow may be in a bind. another possability is the hvac controlls. hope this helps

You might have vacuum leak at anywhere. Check the vacuum pump and solenoid. Unplug and plug the vacuum feed to the solenoid else replace the solenoid. You can find necessary ford AC parts at http://www.discountacparts.com/Ford-AC-Parts/
Make sure you have the heat selection set all the way to heat. In Ford and Dodge vehicles, when you select Defrost the AC compressor actually kicks in and if you have the temperature selection set to the cool side it will push cold air to defrost your windshield.
check behind the climate control its either vacuum operated or cable operated when you switch it from floor to defrost.its probably seized up or broke....
