1995 ford Windstar won't shift from 2 gear

The fact that her Windstar won't shift out of second would indicate one The first would be that the 2/3 shift solenoid has failed on her. This could conceivably cause this failure to move above that shift point. It's possible that it has only reached a state of failure in which it locks up at normal operating temperature. Therefore, when the engine is cold and stays cold (because of the short trip distance), it manages to operate.

The second possibility is a problem with the control module. This computer helps to tell the transmission when to shift. It's not uncommon for electronics in vehicles to show early signs of failure more when heated than cold so it could be that this module is malfunctioning with the engine warm causing her failure to shift.

Finally, the problem could be an internal transmission problem of another type (many possibilities) that could only be accurately identified by a hands on inspection.

I've seen this similar problem before on this era Windstar and repair has been replacing the control module twice, the shift solenoid on three occasions, and one required a complete transmission rebuild. of three things (given that the fluid is good).

My 2003 ford windstar is stuck in overdrive, what should I do?

TCC solenoid stuck or valve body. Pull the transmission pan( lots of fluid comes out) check the pan for metal (metal flake to bigger chunks) Either is a sign of a transmission rebuild. If there isn't metal make sure the fluid doesn't smell burnt(you can tell) (again rebuild the transmission, clutches gone). after that go after the valve body. Your best bet is to get a remanned one. It comes with all the solenoids. About $400.

3.8 ltre 100,000 miles tranny stopped working altogether

I would recommend just looking around for a new transmission because Rebuilding transmissions can be costly but you can guarantee that it will work without fail(if done correctly by the technician). The biggest drawback to a used transmission is you need to be careful when buying one because in the years that I've been working on cars I've seen customers come in with transmissions that they bought from a private party (not a store) and had the transmission installed and it did not work. There is no easy way to tell if a used transmission is bad just by looking at it but ultimately the choice is yours to make. The Cost effective way would be a used transmission from a store that has a warranty on the transmission. The safest way would be to visit either a Transmission repair shop or a certified Ford Dealership to have the transmission inspected and overhauled.

I hope this helps you out a little!

Tranmission gave out

It is 15 years old and it has done its job, it is OK for it to die now. You have to decide how much money you are willing to spend to fix a 500 dollar vehicle. Your choices are first to call around to transmission shops and ask how much they charge to rebuild your transmission or to swap a rebuilt for yours, and of course the labor to remove and reinstall. Another choice is to call around to junkyards, or recyclers if you prefer, and find a transmission which will fit, and came from a vehicle with much lower mileage. For goodness sakes do not get one shipped across country. Having that cost in mind call some shops and ask them the labor to remove the old and reinstall the replacement.
Myself I will not put a used wear item in a car, but many folks do. The warranty on a used transmission is to give you a replacement, not to pay labor for the second round of remove and reinstall. When you have the prices on those options, you will be able to make a choice, bear in mind the cost of just buying a 1999 Windstar.

I got a ford 98 ford windstar, yet i got a transmission problem, since this transmission is not available in most of the wrecking yards i am wondering if i can replace ford windstar by Ford Turas/sable...

Never install a used trans from any salvage yard. Having been in the trans business, you only buy the trans or core to rebuild. Their someone elses worn out unit, most likely worse than yours.
Repair or rebuild yours, the only option,if you want reliability, long term.
I don't believe you have a ford unit, most likely the engine and trans is a mazda or some foreign piece,so no on the taurus trans.

Transmission

Check the bolt pattern,,, use a pice of card board on the transmission and opke out the holes,, then place this on the other transmission and see if it matches..

Depending on the model myou are looking at Yes it will fit, but you will need to rewire the neutralizing switch and the shift selector... as well as adjust the kick down cable.

If you need a transmission Id suggest you get a transmission full kit and rebuild yours..
