Bypassing Temperature sensor on the radiator

My fans comes on the A/C is on, but when it is off and my car is running the car gets hot after driving for awhile. I noticed that that fans don't come on. It must be the temperature sensor. My question is how can i bypass it so that it runs when the car is on?

yes i understand that but i have to get to and from work today and for the next couple of days until i can change it. It won't be a permanent thing just a temporary fix.

Can I splice the wires at the bottom of the radiator that's connected to the temp. sensor?

  • Anonymous May 08, 2009

So, I did not have to cut any wires . I have a 1994 Toyota Camry Le. I followed the temp. sensor connection from the bottom of the radiator to a link that's located on the top right next to the radiator and the battery. With the ignition in the on position I disconnected that link and the fan comes on. This is a Temporary fix. No 12v power wire needed, No cutting any wires just a simple disconnection of a link. But I do want to thank you guys for your help.

Just connect the two wires that are connected to the sensor which will keep the fan running when the ignition is on.

  • Anonymous May 07, 2009

The suggestion I gave you is just a temporary fix to keep you from over heating but the other guys are right in that you should replace the sensor. Do not connect to a power supply that is not controlled by the ignition switch as the fan will continue to run even with the engine off. Just connect the two wires together and the fan will come on when the ignition switch is on and off when it is off. Replace the sensor!

Bypassing something isnt a solution, i would try starting cheap, a tempurature sensor isnt an extremely expensive part, try replacing it, not making it insignificant, you will propably end up ruining a more expensive part.

Yeah, you can alway just hook it to a 12V power wire, to make it run constantly, but if you do however forget to disconnect it when you shut the car off you will more than likely kill your battery.

but I AM NOT SUGGESTING THIS PROCEDURE.

My car honda accord fans not working the car gets too hot what can I do

If you have checked all fuses and relays..and your fans are not coming on at all..most likely you have bad sensors that sense the temp of the water in the radiator..most are inserted into the radiator core..and to the fans and when the heat gets higher then their settings the fans come on and off when cool enough without them.. Need to have someone bypass the sensors.." Direct 12 volt to the fans" and if the fans run it is the sensors or fuse or relay..good luvk

Why is my 2001 cadillac running hot?

With the thermostat out you should see a lot of circulation. If not investigate water pump. Is the fan electric fan working? Bypass the relay and run the fan whenever the engine is running. If it doesn't overheat with the fan running then investigate fan control. make sure the coolant is topped off and use a thermometer in the radiator to verify temperature.

Car runs hot. Its 2005 grand prix

Start by flushing your coolant system, then refill with a quality coolant.
Run up to temperature and check again for level (when cool again)

Check that the radiator is getting really hot quite suddenly when running from cold, as this is the best way of checking thermostat operation.
When over a set temperature (check your manual) the fan should come on.
If it never does - troubleshoot the fan (temperature switch or sensor first, then fan on direct feed to see if it powers up ok)

Running hot all water going straight to overflow tank

Check the thermostat. If the upper hose does not feel very hot to the touch when the car is warmed up already, this indicates the thermostat is not opening, and therefore the water cannot circulate causing the overheating problem. Second possiblity is the radiator fan. If the car tends to overheat only on city driving it is a the radiator fan not coming on. This is either due to a bad radiator fan, blown fuse, bad relay, or a bad temperature sensor or temperature switch. If the car tends to overheat at highway speed, then it is the radiator being clogged up, and not letting enough water circulation when demand is at its highest which is high engine rpm.

Both radiator cooling fans won't turn on vehicle overheats

The fans come on only when hot or the AC is on. There are many fuses that have to be good for it to work. The fan relay should have 2 pins hot with the key on, The other 2 should be ground. with the key off one should be hot and the other can then be ground the other pins that are ground one of them is the fan. the other becomes ground when the computer turns the fans on. If you don't have a pin thats hot at the relay all the time then theres a blown fuse or even the power wire from the battery at the battery

Radiator fans won't turn on unless ac is running. why does it do that, how can i fix it?

Radiator fans only need to run when the engine temperature exceeds a predetermined range for the sensor. I would think the AC bypasses the sensor via a separate circuit. The engine temperature would raise if for example the ambient temperature increases on a hot day or if you were clinmbing hills about the mountains, or if the radiator water level was low etc.

Hope this helps somewhat.
