Best Manuals Greetings, I read your question and I think Reliable-Store can help you in this. Here's the site link.
SOURCE: Rough idle, no power, steamy exhaust
The answer was the plug top coils. The plugs and coils were replaced and the car is fine. The steam was not steam - it was white smoke from the catalytic converters. No mayo in the oil and no coolant level drop should have eliminated the head gasket. The steam turned out to be a red herring.

abs warning light stays on jaguar s type 2001 can you help
SOURCE: Jaguar x-type (2001 2.5 petrol) Engine Light on
I have had this problem on and off with my '02 X-type. I have taken it to a place where they will read and interpret the error codes for free. Every time it came back with a evap leak code. We had the dealer look the entire car over twice, but they could not find anything wrong. So we asked him if we should be worried. His response: "Nothing to worry about as long as the engine does not cut out or does into "limp home" mode." What it comes down to is that some of the sensors on this car are a little too sensitive. Even something as simple as hitting a bump can cause this code to pop up. There seem to be several possible solutions:
1: replace gas tank cap
2: replace air filter located behind the golve compartment
3: Open the hood. Remove the plastic cover from the engine block. There will be several hoses running between the engine block and the plastic over you just removed. Check those for leaks. (They get hot from being so close to the engine block and the rubber gets brittle).
4: Have the fuel nozzles cleaned/replaced
5: Clean out the air intake
Essentially I have not done any of this because my engine is running lean (meaning it is using less gas than it should). Seeing as though it is running fine, I can't see paying what the dealer wants per hour to look for something they have looked for twice already and didn't find.
I'd say try any of the above, but I cannot guarantee a solution. I'm sorry.

SOURCE: Amber warning lights on.
I have a 2001 xtype and the same lights came on my dash, i had it plugged up to diagnostic and it was down to a split reluctor ring on the rear wheel, this set off the abs light which in turn sets off the management light. Will cost £200, but looks quite easy to repair by self
