In the car wash turn off engine and leave shifter where you had it and car will go thru as if in neutral. then put it in park and crank to leave. the car will only start in park or neutral. you can find neutral by trying to start in all other position except park

Slips out of second into neutral when u give it some gas

Could you please comment below with more information about the vehicle this is happening to? Make, Model, engine size, Year it was made, Manual or automatic gearbox.
On a manual transmission the three most common reasons are...
Old or low transmission fluid.
Badly adjusted shift linkages.
Worn Syncro-mesh rings.

My 91 w150 slips out of gear into neutral when first starting but once I get going it's fine is the linkage out of adjustment?

bent linkage - or failed motor mount. The engine at idle has little torque so the linkage isn't really where it needs to be - once revs are increased - torque increases and the twisting of the engine on the remaining mounts is enough to keep the linkage in place. Either way, probably not a very expensive fix.

My Manuel 95 ford probe is stuck in 5th gear and shift knob is in the neutral position , any ideas ?

Hi Chris:
If you can get at the linkage and pull it back into neutral it should function for a while.
I found that on older vehicles with manual transmissions the "gates" in the linkage shift assembly got worn so that when a fast shift was attempted, the shift knob (lever) would move, but the pin connector would slip out.
Be safe. Work off a hoist or have the vehicle on jack stands so that you can safely get at the transmission where the linkage levers are attached.

I have a 1995 Lincoln Continental that shifts itself into neutral driving down the street. I have to put the gear shifter into neutral and then back to drive to get the transmission to catch. It has been...

if trans not slipping and shift o.k true out its shift range
i would look at adjustiing the selector swich if electric
or lever control if linkaged if electric a new selector swtch may be required
if linkaged parts in linkaged may start to wear (bushings etc)
also look at engine and motor mounts if system is linkaged

While driving the car quite and the netural sign starts blinking. Change fuel pump and now it want start.

It sounds like the linkage in the transmission has slipped. Check the linkage adjustment from the gear shift to the transmission. It sounds like it has slipped into neutral, and automative transmissions will not start in neutral.
Try moving the gear shift back and forth and have a friend see if the linkage, viewable from under the hood (though you may have to remove the air box first), is moving as well. If it is, disconnect the cable off the link and manually push the arm into park. Try to start the car. If your car starts, then this is definitely the problem. Go to your local transmission dealership for information on repair.
