Is it choking out as in black smoke at the exhaust or just not wanting to accelerate? This engine is bulletproof mechanically so that leaves fuel and ignition. It runs smooth so ignition is probably good, I would suspect the fuel filter or fuel pump. I hope this helps. Take care.
the fuel filter, can be only 1 problem. I recommend to RUN the scanner/computer, you can have some other parts faulty like: ignition coil+pcm+bcm+sparkplug+sensor(s),etc see the diagram attached.and make TUNE up . Remember the electronic in vehicle now is very complicated. God bless you
A normal tune up is plugs/wires/cap/rotor and fuel filter. If you have a DIS (distributorless ignition system) change plugs, wires, fuel filter. You can also change oil and air filter.
will try to assist you. ok car starter turns but no engine start?you were not very specific on your problem other than car starts sometimes. and battery ok. you may have clogged fuel injectors[recommend lucas fuel injector cleaner, add 1 bottle to tank of fuel and run for 50 miles to clean the injectors] other problems, is check engine light on? if so you have engine component bad or going bad.it may be idle control sensor, bad mass air flow sensor, it may only need tune up,plugs and wires. it sounds like fuel related issues because it does start after trying. not a no start issue. recommend replace the fuel filter, add the lucas fuel injector cleaner to your fuel tank[follow instructions on bottle] then see if your car starts right. if not, repost your questions to fixya.com please be specific as possible, even small details like engine sputter mean alot when trying to diagnose an engine when not there to hear it myself means alot. thank you for choosing fixya.com and i look forward to assisting you in the future!
If you are referring to a "tune-up", then for a complete tune-up for your vehicle you will need to replace the ignition wires (spark plug wires), spark plugs, air filter, the fuel filter, and also the pcv valve. There is no distributor in your vehicle so that is all that a complete tune-up for your vehicle will consist of. Here is a firing order diagram for both engines that were available for that vehicle to help assist you replace the ignition wires, and let me know if you require any further assistance.
