Door won't open on the outside or inside after using a slim jim

I locked my keys in the car and used a slim jim to open my door and now the door won't open from the outside or the inside. when I lift the handle on the outside it feels really light and on the inside of the car the door feels tight when I lift the handle. I don't believe it is catching the lock to open the door. I can not open the door from the outside or the inside of the car. I have a 2005 Dodge Dakota

You probably pulled the rod off of the handle lever. once you get into the truck. take off your inner door panel and re connect those rods. there should be 3 screws on the bottom of the inner door panel. remove those and then lift the panel up and out.

SOURCE: I used a slim jim and now my door won't open from the outside.

Open up the door panel and put the control rod back on. that often happens when getting in that way...still cheaper than a locksmith or a window!! (clip is probably in the bottom of the door)

Dodge journey door lock problem

There is a door lock linkage inside the door that is disconnected or broken. You will have to open up the door to put it back on or replace it.

If you are not handy enough to open the door up yourself, take it to a body shop (where they paint your car after a crash). These guys open up these doors all the time.

Did you lock your keys in the car recently and have a lock shop open it with a slim jim? If so, they broke this link. If not, then an inept car thief might have tried to open your car this way and broken the linkage for you.

After using slim jim car door will not open from outside or inside

You probably knocked the door linkage off during the slim jum operation, You will need to remove the inner door panel and re-connect the door handle linkage. Hopefully you did not break the plastic clip.

I need a diagram of the locking mechanism in my 2001 nissan sentra so that i can use a slim jim to unlock the passenger side door.

I don't have a diagram of the door but if you slip the slim Jim in over the top of the outside door handle it should catch on the latch bar. If you are doing this because the door won't open from the interior handle or the outside handle the problem most likely isn't the lock. The way that handle connects to the release it is held in place with a piece of plastic that breaks fairly easy. If that piece breaks the interior door handle won't activate the unlock function when pulled and you will have a heck of a time getting the door opened so you can get inside the panel to do the repair.

The rear passenger door on 1993 lincoln contenental will not open neither from outside nor from inside but the pin goes up and down when operated by fob as well as unlock - lock button on the car

Ok this one is a tough one. If your handle on the outside does not work for some time, then the rod that attaches to the handle has most likely come loose. Your options are limited. I usually do not recommend the use of a slim jim. However in this case, a slim jim is an option. Inside your read door panel are three main rods. One rod moves the inside handle. The other rod moves the outside handle. The third rod is attached to the lock knob. Using the slim jim slide it into the door. Hook it onto one of the rods and pull up slightly. Try to see what is moving when you move the rod. If it is the inside handle or lock knob is moving, then find another rod that moves nothing. That will be the rod that should be attached to your outside handle. Lift up on that rod and it should open your door.
After you open the door, go ahead and take the time to fix your door, by removing the door panel and re-attaching the rod to the handle.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

The drivers door will not open with the outside door handle but can be opened with the inside door handle.

inside the door on the release mechanism there are two rods held to the lock assembly by nylon clips. One is activated when you open the door from the inside the other from the outside. It sounds like one of the nylon clips has broken or come loose. This often happen after someone has locked their keys in the vehicle and used a slim jim to open the door.(a slim jim is a long flat piece of metal used to trip the lock from outside by inserting it between the window and the weatherstrip and activating the rod) Often during this process the rod is dislodged from the slot in the lock mechanism.

To access this you must first remove the inside door panel and the moisture barrier. You can then see if the rod is loose and if the clip is broken or just knocked loose. On some vehicles it's not possible to actually see the lock assembly and you have to feel your way through the process of checking for a broken clip or a loose rod.
