Is this still on carb?
if yes, just replace jets with smaller one.
pinging is caused by incorrect ignition timing. have a mechanic reset your timing on crankshaft, camshaft, and distributor

Will a bad knock sensor make a knocking noise in the motor

The simple answer is NO, they are there to detect engine knock (pinging) caused by to much ignition timing or not enough fuel (engine running lean). If your knock sensor or sensors are not working the ECU will run the engine in a rich (more fuel) and retarded ignition which will cause a small loss of power and the engine will use more fuel.

Just bought a Sportster 883 2002. There's a rattle in the engine as I get higher up in rpms. Also the exhaust pops as I accelerate. Any idea as to what could be the deal. Carb maybe?

Ahhhh..the Sporty has a rattle...or is it a ping? If your popping through the exhaust, the timing could be off and running rich (Check Spark Plug for dark sooty layer) If your engine is pinging could be advanced timing... pre-ignition happens on acceleration or under a load...loose valves will make noise all the time

Do you have the CV Keihin still? Or are you running an aftermarket carburetor ? Like an S&S?

I have a 2008 Impala LTZ 3.9 ltr engine. My engine light continues to come on. My mechanic tells me it is running ricj

Need to have a code, running rich could mean a lots of things, temp sensor, o2 sensor, fuel pressure to high, get the code and come back, if the mechanic wont give you the code for free, go to auto zone in your area, free code riding.

Have 307 86 gas in oil some pinging not really knocking or ticking. possibly diaphragm on gas pump allowing this through crank case or what should i do

there are only so many ways for gas to get into the oil.one someone purposely pured gas into the crankcase.two the engine is running very rich and not able to burn the excess gas, three the fuel pump is leaking gas into the crankcase, four the oil has not been changed regularly and the gas has thinned out to the point that it cannot seal the engine from the gas that normally is burned in the combustion chamber. If maintenance is regularly performed that fixes #4,I doubt that anyone would pour gas into the crankcase especially at the price of gas that fixes #1,if the carburetor is working as it was designed to then that eliminates running rich and fixes #2.if the above is good then the only thing left the fuel pump, can leak fuel into the crankcase and they won`t make noise necessarily.as far as the slight pinging one of two things can cause this, the engine is running slightly lean and or the timing is too advanced and needs to be reset to specs

2003 f150 supercrew 2wd 4.6 romeo has 62000 miles.Pinging noticed when thermostat opens after cold start.Pinging occurs with most throttle positions/loads except full throttle (cant hear it) or idle.EGR...

do not use any fuel additives at all. and only use 87 octane fuel nothing higher. 4.6 and 5.4 ford engines do have a pinging sound especially with a load. but it is normal

Pinging

Check for a "Knock Sensor" rear engine area, behind intake, mounted in block. Replace with new.
