Believe it or not, this is the headache to remove and replace the headlights:

Removal & Installation

  1. Remove the front bumper cover.
  2. Remove the tool box and the luggage compartment trim (carpet).
  3. Remove the 2 bolts and the nut.
  4. Disconnect the connectors, then remove the headlight

Extremely helpful. Headlight is bolted in the same way on the 2000 model, but I was able to change it by simple removing two of the luggage compartment plastic retainers and then loosening the rearmost screw attaching the bumper to the front fender.. This will allow you to reach the bottom rear bolt if you turn the front wheels without removing the front bumper or the luggage compartment. You will need about an 18 inch extension to reach that last bolt this way, but it beats removing the entire bumper. :)

SOURCE: how do you replace a headlight bulb on a 1986

Pop your headlights up 3 clicks on the nob in the cockpit, they will remain popped up though switched off. This is valet mode and stops them shutting unexpectedly on your fingers.
Take off the metal cover on the pop up using star torque tools and you will have access to the rear of the light unit. The bulb is under the black rubbery boot you have to twist it out and it may be rather stiff with age etc... Good luck.

Changing toyota spyder headlight

Front bumper needs to be dropped. I have an 02 and I just let the dealer do it. I purchased the four light before hand and negotiated a price with a dealer to do the job. Find out what a local place will do it for and get them to match the price. Hope that answered you question because it was vague.

Aiming headlights

if you don't see little bubble levels near the headlight under the hood then you must have them aligned with an optical aimer, if you do have the bubble guages then park the car on a level pad and set the bubbles to center with the little adjusting screws near them.
