  • messahy Mar 20, 2009

    in put 2 quarts in but I was worried about why the light didnt go off. Is that common for this car model?

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

    Did you put oil in it so that the oil level isn't low anymore and up to the "full" mark on the dipstick?

Ok the lite it wont go on until probably there is 1or 2 quarts of oil in there
so that means if you are loosing some oil , you should be checking more often,

Why would the oil light stay on?

That depends on the type of oil warning light being displayed. There are 2 types of warning lights

1. Low oil pressure light which all cars have
2. low oil level light which some cars have.

Low OIL PRESSURE warning means the oil pressure is below minimum and when this happens there will be insufficient lubrication of many engine parts because sufficient oil cannot get to all parts of the engine it is required to lubricate. Until the cause is identified and rectified the warning light will remain. If you run your engine with low oil pressure you will cause expensive damage to internal engine components.

Low OIL LEVEL warning means the oil in the sump has dropped to a dangerously low level (which may be due to an oil leak or abnormal oil consumption by the engine.) This warning means the oil level needs to be topped up and the warning will stay displayed until you top up the oil. Running the engine with low oil will cause expensive engine damage.
Since it is a 2 minute job, Oil levels should be checked fortnightly as a minimum, together with radiator coolant and power steering fluid levels, if you run the car most days each week as most people do.

It is possible for a warning light to remain displayed when the cause has been dealt with because there is a problem with the sender unit. However it needs to be established with alternative checks that the problem has been fixed before investigating if there is a problem with the warning light itself.

2005 Kia Sedona ex oil light comes on and off with slight ticking noise what could cause this?

  • Low oil level;
  • Oil broken down or contaminated;
  • Clogged oil filter;
  • Bad oil pump;
  • Clogged sump pickup in oil pan.
DO NOT START OR DRIVE THE CAR AGAIN UNTIL YOU HAVE REMEDIED THE PROBLEM. Running the car now will cause PERMANENT DAMAGE to your engine.

Can extreme cold cause brake light on dash to come on?

Often, the brake light on dash indicates low brake fluid. Check that first. Cold could affect the level a tiny bit so that warm it's close to low level, cold is on low level.

Does the 89 300 sel have a kill switch or sensor that would keep it from staring like if was low on oil etc.

No, it does not. It has an oil level light, and an oil pressure gauge, but no "kill" switch, as that would be extremely unsafe to have your engine cut out in traffic with no warning.
Can you describe the problem you are having?

The oil light comes on at times and goes off as the rpms go up. What can be done about the light?

Maybe your engine is idling too slowly, If the revs are below say 700rpm the low pressure warning light could come on especially when the engine is hot.. If the idle speed is ok try a heavier grade of oil in the engine. Next try a new oil pressure sensor. It's got to be one of these things. Check the engine running temperature . An over-hot engine will cause the oil light to come on too.

1992 honda accord 245,000 miles oil light blinking while idling and once while I was driving the oil level is good. what could be the problem

Oil light relates to oil pressure, not oil level. If engine has not been rebuilt, it is safe to assume that it is nearing the end of its life. Low oil pressure light goes off on increased rpm´s , and hence, pressure goes up. You can extend the life a little bit by switching to heavy oils, such as 20W-50, but eventually it also wont be enough, and will start fouling the plugs. Check the oil level, because extremely low levels of oil can also produce a low pressure warning.

My engine is making a clickin sound.the oil light is on.i got the oil change

Check the oil level. When you can hear clicking or a ticking noise under the hood, it's usually an indication that there's insufficient oil in the engine. There's a chance that when you had the oil changed, they either didn't tighten the oil filter or oil plug adequately. In some occasions it could occur if the wrong oil filter was installed. Either way, check your oil level. If the oil level is fine however, then the oil pressure switch is most likely the culprit and should be replaced. I hope you find this post to be helpful and wish you the best of luck with your problem.

Oil light

The oil light typically only shows a lack of oil pressure, not a low oil level. Granted, if the oil level is so low that the pump is losing the ability to pick it up, it could activate then since the low pressure situation would be caused by an extreme lack of oil. Also, when was the last time the oil was changed? A clogged oil filter or severely dirty oil could cause an oil pressure drop.

It could be an oil pump failing, or it could also be a bad sending unit (the part that sends oil pressure data to the instrument cluster). Changing a sending unit or disconnecting it and hooking a pressure gauge to the port is usually easier than pulling the oil pan to replace the pump. If it were me, I would start there and make sure it wasn't a false alarm.

Hope this helps, and good luck!
