SOURCE: 02dodge ram ,running rough, black smoke out exhaust

Take it to an Autozone or O'Reillys and they will test the computer for you. It should have set a code, but you don't know if the code light works so its your best bet. Sounds like it is running rich and the crankshaft module is not advancing the timing.

SOURCE: 1990 DODGE D150 WON'T START WHEN HOT

There is a temp. sensor on the exhaust manifold that I just switched out on car that done the same thing it would start when cold but once it was hot and you killed the car it would not start back. When this goes bad its throwing the wrong signal to the computer that it is too hot and allowing it not to crank. This sensor was on the left side of the engine if your facing the car from the front. Also It can be tested with a multimeter to see if it is bad.

I have a 1991 d150 p/u and it has blue smoke from exhaust when started

If it smokes more when you first start it than other times, the common cause is leaking valve guides in the cyl heads.
The guides leak oil into the cylinders when the engine is not running.
Most other causes would make the engine smoke when running or under load too.

What is the name of the manual 4 speed transmission for the 1984 dodge d100 with a 3.7 (225ci) motor, and with that trans match up to a 5.2 (318ci) motor?? thank you

The great Dodge slant 6 engine...these were very strong and dependable, i put 300,000 on a 1985 D100 and it was still going strong when i sold it. Your transmission is a "883"
Chrysler began using "833" four speeds in passenger cars in 1964. The transmission was designed by Chrysler and manufactured by New Process Gear Co. Chrysler installed the 833 four speed behind the Slant Six at two different times. The first production four speed slant sixes were the 1964-66 A-body four speed cars. The second run of production four speed slant sixes began in 1975 with the release of the Overdrive A-833. From 1975 until 1987 the Overdrive four speed was installed in slant six applications of A-bodies, F-bodies, and light trucks (D100 & D200 series trucks). These applications were not ultra rare, but the slant six four speed production figures pale in comparison to the number of V8 cars that received A-833 four speeds. Since the A-833s installed behind slant sixes were basically the same transmissions installed in the V8 cars, a slant six owner looking to install an A-833 should be familiar with all the A-833s produced, including the ones used behind V8s...There are several characteristics of the various A-833s that determine which four speeds fit in which chassis and with which engines. For the passenger cars, Chrysler manufactured two different length four speeds. The A/F-bodies received a short tailshaft A-833 and the B/C/E-bodies received a long tailshaft A-833. This difference is obvious when one of each type is sitting side by side, but either type is easily identified when it happens to be a stand alone unit.

If you are looking to replace your truck tranny, you will need to find another one out of a truck that had the slant 6 engine for it to be a direct bolt up. Chrysler made several variations.

1975 thru 1987 Overdrive 3.09:1 - 1.67:1 - 1:1 - 0.73:1 (Trucks used a 0.71:1 fourth)

Good luck, hope this helps.

I have an 81 dodge d150, the slant six in it is not running. i had it running yesterday but the timing was off and it was sluggish. today i pulled off the distributor cap to find corrosion on the pick up...

The pick up has to have an .018 air gap to pick up magnetic pulse. If you have no feeler gauge then use a matchbook cover its close to .018. When setting the timing just add enough advance so as to not kick back on the starter or spark knock. If advance has it idled high, then bring it down at the throttle stop on the carb

Smoking at higher rpms

Hi, its time for a ring set job in this vehicle. the blue smoke is a sign of major oil consumption due to bad piston rings. you also have faulty valve seals as well. this is deep engine repair and it will be costly.

If you cant do this job soon, be sure to watch the oil consumption by checking the level regularly and, monitor the oil pressure as well.

ok ... it could be that the carb is so gummed up with old fuel that none is getting into the engine..... some trouble shooting will be involved if you buy the vehicle
