I doubt that it was ever the fuel system. The CATALYTIC converter sounds like it is plugging up.

have you tried checking the map sensor this can sometimes cause the engine to run oddly. also check for good spark check wires when its pitch black out check for wire arching. also check fuel pressure with a pressure guage.make sure cap and rotor are clean of deposits. keep searching and you will find the weak link.

Check the fuel pressure regulator, make sure it's working properly and also clean out the MAF sensor with MAFcleaner. it sounds like your having the engine go lean under load. Good luck

97 lumina, 3.1. Starts runs smooth, drive for 30

I just recently have been fighting the same problem with the same make/model/year vehicle. For myself, I would drive off and on through the day and it would run fine. Then suddenly after a start it would run rough and die. I would have to wait 20 to 60 mins before it would start again. I had it checked and fuel pump was only putting out around 19 psi. It should be around 41 psi. Had fuel pump replaced and no more problems. Furthermore, now it runs so much better. It's funny how over time I didn't notice how the performance was slowly degrading. Unfortunaley fuel pumps for this car run around $300.

Fuel pump may be working but not providing enough fuel pressure to operate the vehicle.Try to see if it will start with alternative fuel such as a sensor safe induction cleaner. If it starts then dies after it burns the cleaner then more then likely the fuel pump is bad.

Check fuel pump for pressure and output. If it's not that, don't start guessing... have a scanner put on it and get some codes. While some codes can be ambiguous, it will serve to start you in the right direction!
