Accel/Brake catching I have a 2002 Pontiac Sunfire When I come to a complete stop or rolling stop then accelerate, something is happening in the rear of my car. It feels as if someone is running into the back of my car. It does not stop my car, but it scares my passengers to death. It does have a feeling that something is releasing but I do not feel as if my acceleration is hindered. I went to 2 shops, got an answer of some form at the first, the 2nd one hooked it up to the computer and said that there have been no codes showing to register that problem...

I have a pontiac sunfire. It has a rattling sound when I accelerate. Just started doing this about 2 days ago. Scared something bad is fixing to happen. Any idea what it could be? thanks.

When the car is cooled off bang on the exhaust. It's possible you have a heat shield that is loose. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to answer them. Thank you for using FixYa.com!

When I apply the brakes(front disc/rear drum) on my 1999 Pontiac Sunfire, it makes a popping sound with a shake.

The brakes themselves would not likely be the cause of a popping sound, but the problem may only show up during braking. The shake could be from loose steering parts or from distorted rotors. Rotors get quite hot during braking, and the faster you drive and the harder you stop the more heat they have to take. Have the brakes inspected by a qualified brake technician. (A lot of shops offer free brake inspections.) A tech will also note problems with the steering parts connected. Give the tech as much info as possible - does it happen during turns, only when braking, when accelerating, etc. The more information you supply the better the chance of catching the problem.

Get your caliber replaced and if it still has the factory rotor also get that replaced. Recommended to get both replaced at the same time.

2005 Pontiac Aztek Parking Brake

The E-brake just needs adjusted up on the pads or rear shoes. If shoes on the rear instead of pads, it will hold from rolling back but not forward if not getting full pressure from the brake shoes needing adjusted up closer to the drum. It will hold from back roll because of shoe design. More shoe surface on the rear shoe than on the front shoe. That's the way they're built.
