When I apply the brakes(front disc/rear drum) on my 1999 Pontiac Sunfire, it makes a popping sound with a shake.
The brakes themselves would not likely be the cause of a popping sound, but the problem may only show up during braking. The shake could be from loose steering parts or from distorted rotors. Rotors get quite hot during braking, and the faster you drive and the harder you stop the more heat they have to take. Have the brakes inspected by a qualified brake technician. (A lot of shops offer free brake inspections.) A tech will also note problems with the steering parts connected. Give the tech as much info as possible - does it happen during turns, only when braking, when accelerating, etc. The more information you supply the better the chance of catching the problem.
