SOURCE: timing chain
Timing chain does not need to be replaced like a timing belt. It will only need to be replaced if it starts making noise or causing problems
SOURCE: manual recommends changing out the timing chain at
You wouldn't think a roller chain would wear out,but they do, each link wears just a small amount, when you add all the links wear together it becomes ALOT, which if let go can stretch and become UNSAFE, not to mention the performance, gas mileage and other effects to the engine and engine management systems.
FOLLOW THE MANUALS RECOMMENDATIONS!!!!!
Good Luck !
SOURCE: does a kia rio diesel 56 plate need the timing belt changing or has it got a chain
The engine which is made by Mercedes is not belt driven, it has a timing chain, timing chains never need to be replaced unless they fail or the engine is being rebuilt.
