1988 bronco II vapor locking?

1988 Bronco ii is2.9L fuel injected, 5 spd 4x4. has been steadily running irractic, likeit is not getting gas (and loss of rpm when acts this way) then today it toally stopped running while I was driving on highway, had to stop and wait till it sat for approix 30 minutes before it would crank up then after about 5 miles it stopped running again and again I had to wait approx. 30 minutes before it would crank back up, that time I was able to drive it to house. Any suggestions as to what can be going on with this thing?

I had the same trouble with mine....mostly on warm days ....that is why you think vapor lock and technically it is...... the fuel pump in the gas tank is getting tired and needs replaced.......keeping a full tank can ward off the problem at times but eventually the in tank fuel pump is needing replaced.......

Just a guess here, but check your ignition coil. Make sure it's mounted nice and tight to the block. a bad ground on a coil will mess with you bad. other than that, I'd check and replace your fuel filter.

SOURCE: 89 bronco II stars then dies

if the fuel pump cutoff was tripped it would not start at all, I know this for sure, I am a Ford dealer tech and I specialize in no starts and check eng lights. If the ignition switch is bad the 2 halves of the switch will be starting to come apart, it is very common, u should be able to either see it or feel it with your hand.

SOURCE: 1988 Bronco 2 stalling out.

have te ignition module and stator been replaced? that is the common cause of this, and yes the engine being out of time can cause this stall out, when you time the engine remember you must remove the timing shorting bar at the distributor connector to the TFI ignition module or the timing will be severely retarded

SOURCE: my bronco II 2.9 fuel injected runs rough blow

Make sure all the sparkplug wires are in the right order. If you try fuel injector cleaner, try Lucas brand. Check to see if the distributor is loose, the timing may be off. Spark plugs and wires may need to be replaced, along with the distributor cap and rotor. If the smoke is black, it is burning oil, if white, it is burning water, greyish, it may be excess gas the engine can't burn. You should be able to tell by the smell also. If fuel injectors are bad, it may smell like gasoline inside the vehicle.

SOURCE: 1988 Ford Bronco fuel injection system isn't getting power to it

i had a similar problem that ended up being the fuel pump relay located in the engine compartment on the drivers side next to the air box. there will be at least 2 relays, the fuel pump one is black and brown. check that first.

1988 ford bronco ll engine cuts off while driving. I could not get it started until the next day

Hello, why type of fuel do you use? You could have water in your fuel??. If you are living where the weather is very hot and your having to buy fuel with alcohol 10% or more don't buy this type of fuel. Your 1988 Ford Bronco II is carburetored, and the alcohol will start boiling causing vapor locking this Ford Bronco II. One reason is that early model used an open fuel system and none injectors. With the alcohol additive will low the boiling point of the fuel causing it to boil away; therefore, carburetor can't operate on fuel vapors it has to be liquid. GB...stewbison
