You say the fan and A/C work. Does the heat work, through other vents besides the defrost? if so, it's probably a vacuum line that controls the vents.

To cool off your Toyota after it has been parked in the hot sun, drive with the windows open for a few minutes. This vents the hot air, allowing the air conditioning to cool the interior more quickly.

Make sure the air intake grilles in front of the windshield are not blocked (by leaves or snow, for example).

On humid, do not blow cold air on the windshield. The windshield could fog up because of the difference in air temperature on the inside and outside of the windshield.

Keep the area under the front seats clear to allow air to circulate throughout the vehicle.

On cold days, set the fan speed to high for a minute to help clear the intake ducts of snow or moisture. This can reduce the amount of fogging on the windows.

When driving on dusty roads, close all windows. If dust thrown up b the vehicle is still drawn into the vehicle after closing the windows, it is recommended that the in intake be set to FRESH and the fan speed to any setting except "OFF".

If following another vehicle on a dusty road, or driving in windy and dusty conditions, it is recommended that the air intake be temporarily set to RECIRCULATE, which will close off the outside passage and prevent outside air and dust from entering the vehicle interior.

HEATING

For best results, set controls to;
Fan speed ---- Any setting except "OFF"
Temperature----Towards WARM (red zone)
Air intake ---- FRESH (outside air)
Air flow ---- FLOOR
Air conditioning ---- OFF

For quick heating, select recirculated air for a few minutes. To keep the windows from fogging, select fresh after the vehicle has been warmed.

Press the "A/C" button on for dehumidified heating.

Choose floor/windshield air flow to heat the voltage interior while defrosting or defogging the windshield.

AIR CONDITIONING

For best results, set controls to;

Fan speed --- Any setting except 'OFF"
Temperature --- Towards COLD (blue zone)
Air intake --- (outside air)
Air flow --- PANEL
Air conditioning --- ON

For quick cooling, move the air intake selector to recirculate for a few minutes.

VENTILATION

For best results, set controls to;

Fan speed --- Any setting except 'OFF"
Temperature --- Towards COLD (blue zone)
Air intake --- (outside air)
Air flow --- PANEL
Air conditioning --- ON

DEFOGGING

The inside of the windshield

For best results, set controls to:

Air intake --- FRESH (outside air)
Air flow --- WINDSHIELD
Air conditioning --- ON

The outside of the windshield

Air intake --- FRESH (outside air)

My windows are not defrosting properly.

Do you have heat? Does the fan turn on? are you getting air from the defroster vents close to the windshield? If you have heat make sure the defrost control is working. I'd open the outside air vent and turn the blower on high speed. If there is no heat, the heater control valve is not working. Double check the radiator fluid tank, make sure you have enough fluid (antifreeze) Low fluid levels can reduce the hot water flow to the heater coil inside the car. If there
is no air flow through the defroster vents you may have a problem with the fan control, or the fan motor. Good luck.

Turn on power to heater & nothing but the power light comes on, please help

There's a heater core box where radiator coolant passes through. When you turn on the heater, the fan on the heater core box blows air through the core, then the air is heated up and it passes through the air ducts, which leads to the windshield defroster, the vents, or your feet depending on where you set the control. If you're not feeling heat, either the fan on the heater core box is not working, or there's restriction on the coolant hoses and hot coolant isn't passing through the heater core box. Remove and diagnose the heater core box to ascertain the coolant lines are not blocked and the fan is fully operational. If the heater core box is OK, then the hoses have restriction to prevent hot coolant from passing through the heater core box.

Defrost will not defrost my windshield

You do not mention the type of car you have. If you have air that blows out the defroster and panel vents you should have defrost. Do you smell a sweet odor coming from the car? This could be antifreeze leaking though the heater core. This will cause your windshield to remain foggy.

I have a 2007 dodge 2500 diesel and the heater will only heat up to a very light heat.

Mode Door 1.
a.This door regulates air flow to either the dash vents or defrost/floor. If you have air flowing only through the vents with no defrost or floor, this door is failing. From our experience, this door is usually the first domino to fail. Not sure why, just is.

a.When mode door 1 is set to divert air away from the vents and into the second stage of the system, door #2 chooses whether air goes to the defrost vents to the windshield or out through the floor vents in the passenger and driver's side footwells. Failure is indicated by an inability to choose between defrost and floor.
b.This door turns out to be the most difficult to replace. In order to replace the door, the dash panel has to be removed. It's still better than the dealer fix because you don't have to evacuate the AC system, drain the radiator, and remove the plenum box. But it is more work than the other fixes. When this door breaks, it falls in the down position, blocking the floor vents and diverting all air through the defrost vents. From a safety standpoint, this is good since you'd most likely rather have a clear windshield than warm feet. We suspect that a large percentage of customers will just leave this door unrepaired. You will have heat through the dash vents and to the windshield, just nothing to the floor. It's inconvenient, but you'll have to make the determination if warm feet are worth the extra work to fix the door. An extra pair of socks is easier.

My 99 chevrolet monte carlo z34 heat is not that hot and air works for defrost but not dash vents?

check radiator fluid level it take hot radiator fluid to pass through the heater core to produce the heat in your car VIA the fan. also check or replace your thermostat it could be bad and stuck in an open position thus radiator fluid not getting hot, no hot fluid no hot air
the other problem sounds like a duct hose under you dash has come loose locate and reattach.

There is no heat in my truck. I have the

make sure coolant is at proper level. if ok change thermostat. if the thermostat sticks it will make hot coolant go through bypass hose at thermostat, and therefore no heat. if that does not help much try bleeding air from coolant system.

No air or heat up to defroster and plenty of heat to vents

You can use a little shaving cream on the inside of your windshield. It will keep your windshield of fogging up. It also works in the mirrors in your bathroom near the shower / bath tub. If you don't believe me, do a search in google for shaving cream and windshield. Pretty cool, huh?
