Where's the fuse for the AC on 98 Olds 88?

The AC works when a new fuse is in but then somehow the fuse blows and all the fan will blow is hot air. Put in a new fuse and it's cold air again.

So what does the fuse that blows, protect?

You need a wiring diagram & start to test
the components most likely to cause a high
current draw & blown fuse.

Don't keep replacing it.

You know the fan control circuit works, but the
compressor doesn't stay on. Did you monitor
the compressor as the fuse blew?

May have a module for compressor & fan
If so one side failed
The compressor clutch could be bad

SOURCE: 98 Olds LLC - AC works but fan air does not blow

If you have a late model GM car and the system is controlled electronically the blend door actuator becomes weak. When this situation occurs it will not move the air direction door inside of the heater/air conditioner plenum. in your case not to the vents Replace the actuator with new and recheck the system. i hope this helps

SOURCE: on my 1998 olds 88

the heater fan is what blows for a/c also. it may need a new resister for fan motor. the resisters should be under hood by the fan motor. just to the left of motor, one is for low speed and one is foor high speed. this is for a 98 olds 88. the resisters govern the speed of the fan, at differant settings. good-day!

What do the fuse relays under the hood of a 1998 oldsmobile 88 ls control

You have fuses and relays . The fuses are or should br labled inside each cover if still there as well as on the fuse block itself, If not I can look under the hood of mine and tell you. The relays from left to right thats passenger to driver and numbered including the empty spaces as mine hase three on the right and two on the left with three emty slots in between. Now Olds seems to have kept this araingement for some time also my '98 88 has ABS as part of TCS but no relays there and diferent climate controls over the years it is posible you have more or less than are presnt on mine the complete list is as follows
#1 - AC compressor control for the compressors clutch
#2 - Horn relay
#3 - AC blower fan motor on, at low speed on the '98
#4 - AC blower motor off or high speed depending on year, not present on my "98
#5 - ABS pump relay ,not present on my '98
#6 - ABS Main relay also labled as pump relay for some years, not present on '98
#7 - High speed cooling or radiator fan
#8 - Low speed cooling or radiator fan

Could cluster fuse be prob why ac blowing hot? fan blows but hot air

Does the Compressor kick in when you turn on the AC? If it doesn't, the AC compressor is governed by the ECU. My AC went out along with an acceleration problem. hard starting, and unburnt fuel. I had my ECU rebuilt, and upon installation of the rebuilt unit, all worked perfectly again, including the AC.

No ac nd my fan stop working completely

Fuses blow because of higher than normal amperage in the circuit. Not sure what circuit the blown fuse is for but if it is for the fan the fan may be shorted therefore blowing the fuse. If you put fuse in while the ac was still on try shutting off the ac then putting the fuse in. See if it blows then if it doesn't then turn the ac on and if it blows you have at the very least isolated the system at fault.

On my 1998 olds 88 I don't seem to have a good volume of air coming from the vents. The fans blow the a/c is cold but just not good air flow. How can increase the air flow?

Hello and welcome to FIxYa!
You may want to check on the vents for it can be closed half way. If the vents are good then the problem will surely be on the blower itself. It can be worn out that's why the blower motor blows weak. Once replaced I believe you'll be good.
Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

AC not working?

on a hot day it will blow warm/hot air if the AC is turned off or not working

If its hot air and AC is working then i would start by checking the fuse or relay. if its not the fuse/relay then i would look into the heater box there is a door that blocks the hot air

Your AC system is supposed to shut down if the engine is hot, as a safety device-make sure when the ac is running , the radiator fan is blowing-it may not be, caused by either a bad relay, blown fuse or a bad fan motor. Make sure your antifreeze is fully up to level, and if you haven't done it in the past 2 or 3 years, get the cooling system serviced with a new thermostat-cheap insurance, you do NOT want to overheat that aluminum engine, because if you do, it will be toast.

Inconsistant fan

It wouldnt be the fuse if it works somewhat. It could be the brushes in the motor are wearing out or it could be even a fault in the plug.
