Take a battery that has a good charge on it or 12 volts put it in and start it then take a multimeter and put the red lead on to the power lead on the back of the alternator and ground the black lead.It should read between 13-14.5 volts anything more or less replace alternator. If alternator checks out ok check battery voltage after charging it.Must have at least 12-12.6 volts anything less replace battery.

Same problem on Buick Reatta and Riv's The most common problem lies in the connection at the battery, The large positive terminal often doesnt tighten up.to provide a good constant contact one thing I found is to use a longer bolt with lock washers. The flickering of the dash is associated with this anad there may be a loose connection behind the dash itself, The electronic dashes of that era were hypersensitive to changes in the current, Make sure that all of the connections at the battery are tight. Also did you check the alternator for proper operation?

You'll need to remove the entire dash cluster. Not an easy job on that model. Everything comes out the front BUT you'll need to remove the dash pad, drop the steering column, disconnect the speedometer cable and the wiring harness and a few other things that I can't remember right now. Hidden screws are the biggest problem GM likes to hide them in the most unusual places. BE CAREFUL. Plastic breaks easy on these older models.
If ALL the lights are out, it may be a bad connection at the back of the dash. If it is a few, then look for blackened bulbs.
