Secondary fuel pump circuit failure

The computer says that there is secondary fuel pump circuit failure. Where is the secondary fuel pump circuit located on a 1990 Ford F150? Haynes guide & other forums say it is located on the frame rail. Cannot find a secondary pump or circuit. Need advice. Do not hear fuel pump engaging at start of engine, but there is a clicking noise after truck engine is turned over. Truck will not start.

If this speratic problem seams to happen most when it's raining or damp, it is a shorting master contol that is to blame. The master control mother board is located on the firewall. Over time, the moisture seal on the cover fails and the motherboard gets damp and meny false signals are sent. This can even happen if the truck is off and key is not in the ignition (this mother board will alwas have power going to it as long as the battery is connected). A cheap way to check this is to remove the cover, put a plastic grocery bag over the mother board and use an small elastic band to close the open end, allow the wires connected to the mother board to go out the open end. If this solves the problem, replace the seals on the master control cover. Care should be taken as if there is ANY corrossion on the mother board, it will need to be replaced.

SOURCE: tapping or knocking noise in 2009 f150 4.6 3v engine

Tell them you heard about a recall for the CAM PHASERS. When the noise is present and you rev the engine to 2000RPM the noise will fade away. This verifys the CAM PHASERS are acting up.

Usually the sound progresses to the DIESEL level. Further use can damage the engine. There is a service bulletin for this problem. Yours must be an early 2009, last I heard the problem was for 2004-2008 models with dual cams.

SOURCE: truck won't start, can't hear either fuel pump 1992 Ford F 150 5.

If you can't hear the fuel pump when you turn the key to the on position trying to build up fuel pressure, it is most likely either a voltage issue at the fuel pump or you need to replace the fuel pump. Have you checked your fuel filter? Try turning on the key without engaging the starter and see if you hear the whine of the fuel pump.

SOURCE: Fuel pump replacement on a Ford F150 truck

There are two ways to do this. One, would be to drop the tank. If the tank is full then I would remove the bed. If it is empty then dropping the tank would be easier.

To remove the bed you disconnect the tail lights, tag light, and fuel hose. then, with one person on each side, pick up the bed and set it on the rear wheels and bumper. Then you will be able to access the fuel pump which is screwed into the top of the tank. It will have a lock on it that requires a specialized tool. If you dont have it I used a flat head screwdriver and tapped on it with a hammer.

The only way my 1990 ford f150 enline 6 will crank is if fuel is put down the throttle body

Possibly the fuel filters are clogged, should be 2 both located on the frame rail, if not these could be your fuel pump relay, I would check these before going for the Fuel Pumps, yes there are 2 one in the tank and 1 on the frame rail.

1990 F150 Fuel pump just replaced but wont turn on

Replace the fuel pump relay. And if your truck has dual tanks there's three fuel pumps, one in each tank and another secondary fuel pump.

locate the fuel pump and see if you can hook a 12 volt source (car battery) directly to it if the pump turns on you know that the pump is not getting power if it does not turn on you know you need a new fuel pump

I don't here the fuel pump ever kick on in my 1990 Ford F150, and I tested all of the fuses and they are good. I was thinking the relay for the fuel pump might be bad -- any suggestions?

It's under your hood, in one of those boxes, and should be marked. Your pump won't cut in if it's fried either. Check to see if there is power at the pump. Maybe you just have a loose wire. You can always hope!

Then the engine fuse may be blown it will be marked ECM I think, the fuel pump and injector circuits are two seperate systems, the fuel pump most likely has a stuck relay.
